My wife Amanda was in Lidl today and she thought I might have use for a wee sand blaster . Well I tried it out tonight on a old cast iron spindle of a water valve (I also got a big chunk of bronze off the same valve ) and it works a treat to my absolute surprise . So if anyone fancies getting one they are on sale now (obviously lol) ?12.99 .

I bought one when they were available several years ago, and I can't fault it. I removed the small canister and put a siphon hose on the stem leading to a bucket full of sand; it works a treat.

Lucky for me ,I was gifted a 200 litre compressor a couple of wks ago . It was supposed to have an intermittent problem ,only problem i could find was the pressure shut off switch was adjusted to the max ,all I did was turn it down to about 90psi never missed a beat since.

Sean,

Most home-use compressors are either 8 or 10 bar machines - the rationale being that most (decent) air power tools require 6 bar, to operate at full capacity. Some only require 5.5 bar, but that still does not leave much of a ceiling for outlet pressure regulation, even if you have a 200l receiver.

I think the grit blaster (don't use silica sand) will require 6 bar.

as a heads up........

out of interest my local Lidal (Bordeaux) has a small wet / oil air compressor.....€109 euro's.........about 5cu/ft, 24lt tank.......1.8kw motor and has a built in hose reel with a 10m hose on it.....

also there's a selection of hose fittings........have used these fitting everyday and they do last ....mines over 2 years old.......

so I guess it'll be in a store near U quite soon.....

I bought a dry compressor from Aldi over 14 years ago and still works a treat although very noisy, it's just as a mobile tyre inflator.......at these prices u can't go wrong.....

as for the sand blaster and this compressor, it's not a RACE.....

have fun........clogs

Yes the bar pressure is important ,it'c the cfm that makes the difference . Mine delivers 9 cfm so more than happy, and it also keeps up with any air tool i use blaster included ..

That syphon hose conversion to use a bucket of sand idea is good. Somehow I ended up with two of that sort of gun, one Lidl and one of another brand so maybe will give it a try.

Presumably you can still use the collector bag? I have a stand alone syphon from a bucket one but thats just too messy unless desperate.

Fortunately I found a proper Guyson cabinet for affordable money some years back which holds pretty much everything I have to deal with.

Clive.
