![]() 2376 forum posts 800 photos | I notice that JasonB is testing IMGUR as a possibility for 3rd party hosting. Having investigated them myself, I noticed this from their terms of service **LINK** Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network Looks a bit risky to me for long term hosting Cheers, Rod

I think they all have similar conditions but it depends whether they are going to enforce them at unreasonable expense. I think at the moment they are all vying for market share on the advertising and will eventually go for the money hit when they have sucked in enough punters. |

I notice sometimes a picture is linked as a web address that goes to the site and grinds to a halt as the adverts crawl in and sometimes the picture is displayed directly. Is one of these 'hotlinking' and if so which? Hotlinking is where you use someone elses website to serve an image in your web page. For example if you have a website with a picture I want to use (with or without permission). Instead of copying the image and using it in my own website I just include the link to your image in my web page. You are now paying to host the image while I am only hosting some text. If a lot of people view my webpage it may slow down your website as the server is having to deal with all the links to my website. That was probably as clear as mud but basically you pay for my website. You can stop it by configuring the server correctly but most people don't bother and just wonder why they keep going over their bandwidth limit. John |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | I'd actually used it to let someone have a look at an album with over 100 images. They are also om PB but for non members the adverts are a pain. Just thought I would see if they could be linked to. Odd thing is they give links to copy that suit forums and also suggest one of the automatic resize options a suitable for forums. The quote from Rod does say libraries not images so maybe OK for single images? Edited By JasonB on 11/09/2017 16:37:35 |
