I am a newbie and would like to know if one of these Chinese Quick change tool posts are suitable for my Myford ML7 lathe. I live in Perth Western Australia and have for a number of years watched Steve Jordan make a wonderful array of special tools for this lathe. I am a retired radio engineer and will be using my lathe quite a bit as of now.

For the ML7 you would need the 0XA (also known as the 000) series QCTP. with a body 1.75” square. This size is far less common than the larger sizes and does not seem to be carried by many suppliers. Two stockists that I am aware of are Arc Euro Trade in the UK and LittleMachineShop in the US.

Unfortunately the 0XA toolpost will not fit the standard Myford mounting stud. You can either make a replacement or purchase a Model 000 QCTP Mounting Kit from Arc Euro.

Several other suppliers may suitable toolposts including HAFCO.

I have not tried any of these as I have an original Dickson.

You may need to make your own Myford suitable bolt.

Thank guys: thanks for the advice on where to get the QCTP, but what do you think of the cheaper aluminium ones sold by the Chinese, these are more my price range.
have previously made a couple of my own which work well, but need to do too much shimming.
The Chinese ones for me are only $30 Aussie dollars compared to your suggestion some $130.

I bought a Myford Speed 10 recently, it came with one of the aluminium QCTP.

Compared with the steel ones I have on my Myford 254S and Boxford 330, the cheap Chinese one is absolute garbage, and it went straight in the bin.

There's a reason the junk one is a quarter of the price of a decent one

I am about to attempt to make a couple of carbide tip holders and was wondering if 10mm square stainless road would suffice as the holders. Love to hear from anyone who has used stainless or this purpose.

Don’t discount the slightly larger QCTP, I went for the 111series ‘wedge’ style toolpost, which, although as standard is too big for my Seig SC4 lathe, by milling 4.5mm off the tool holders, it works perfectly.

Admittedly, I have a friendly local engineering shop who I am using to sort out the holders for me, and over Christmas I spoke with the guy who was given the job of milling them down. He said that hss wouldn’t touch them, but carbide soon sorted them out.
