Miniature Hand Rivet Squeezer suppliers

Their have from time to time over the years been a few articles in the magazine on the manufacture of Hand Rivet squeezers. Many years ago if I remember correctly I think MES offered a set of Rivet squeezer Yoke castings with throat depths of 12mm 45mm and 75mm and a capacity of 3/32 or 2.4 mm diameter rivets.

At the time I did not have a need of them, but as usual when I decided that they would be very handy they had disappeared completely with out a trace.

I contacted all the Model Engineering Suppliers at the time to no avail. That was about 5 years ago and I have since regularly searched Google without success that was until recently, when by accident I fell across a guy in Germany who was making his own Hand rivet squeezers he had based his design on an existing casting.

After more ferreting I found that a company called Atelier MB **LINK** supplies what for all intents and purposes look to be the same set of three castings together with either a metric or imperial drawing previously available from MES.

I quickly ordered a set and was very impressed with the quality of the casting. So those of you who may presently be looking to manufacture a set of small hand squeezers these castings may well be of interest.

Note if you visit the site select the online pattern shop and don't be fooled as I was by the online bobbin lace shop link into thinking they meant dress patterns and that you have got the wrong site.

Within the pattern shop link you will also find locomotive wheel castings and various engine castings which may also be of interest

That looks like a super useful tool.

They ought to sack their web designer, a good range of stuff of interest to steam people hiding behind a lace making site. I would never have found this.

You need to drill the jaws, the formers are simple turning jobs. Some common sizes I did harden.

Definitely not at the moment. And trade with Switzerland is most unlikely to be VAT-free at any time in the future because they have VAT too.

I'm afraid people will be disappointed if they expect to pay less tax after leaving the EU. If only! The World Trade Organisation forecast is that, after the divorce, the UK can expect to pay an extra £9Bn per annum in tax for imports and an extra £5Bn in tax on exports. This is because, on exit, the UK is no longer covered by EU Trade arrangements. Instead, less advantageous WTO Rules will apply to the UK until new Trade Agreements can concluded with each of our trading partners. That's likely to take a decade or so.

Another problem is the fall in the value of the pound against the dollar. Good news for exports but inflation is rising for the first time in many years.

Also, don't be surprised to be hear in 18 months or so that closing the EU Account will cost the UK about £50Bn. It will be interesting to see how the government raise the money to pay the bill, one way is higher taxes. The cost of exit might be reduced if the negotiations go well, but that doesn't seem at all likely to me. Let's hope I'm wrong!

Even if it was shipped Tax free .... The UK customs would intercept it and charge you 20% VAT + a handling fee + maybe Import duty. It would be treated as if you ordered from the US or anyother non EU country. So you could end up paying more!
