If non ferrous try Albion metals or K and S stockist or try Eileens Emporium or Metalsmith, the latter may cut to size required.

over 0.5m has to go “parcel rate Sadly

Bringing ‘‘this thread. Slightly back on topic?

i find the number of “experts” produced astonishing. A few days ago a MEDIA-MISINFORMATION SPECIALIST was produced.......I kid you not........... an old east end resident would call that a DAGENHAM.

for those not in the loop Dagenham is two stops short of Barking!!!!!

Chris.......you could use the lazy susan at the centre of a burried car/Lorry wheel and use the rim as a support rail.

Assuming your bits and bobs are a similar size to mine😈 my ancient bench vice is often "pressed "into service for this purpose. Motor cycle small end bushes in and out, smaller model stuff in a similar manner all in a reasonably controlled manner. All depends on your ambitions or the size of your vice.......

Thread: A listing of potential helpers

David Standing...... Please take care with advice. Any person who sets out rules and condition can be challenged (unfair conditions, discrimination, violation of human rights) are a remedy available to all. Drawing lines creating inclusion/exclusion can cause those excluded seeking redress via the courts and it tends to get "silly" as I have pointed out earlier being professional(In the legal sense) has a presumed duty of care to get the details spot on, in legal terms, hence the detail in some of my earlier posts. If I were to ask if various terms have been examined by a legal specialist I wonder what the answer would be? The easy way is not always best a simple error however well intentioned could void personal and company liability insurance leaving individuals to face the judiciary system at some enormous cost to their lives.

I am only some old guy with some ,now, indistict letters after my name. Taking a chance is an option or risk

In reflective mood ......I have spent the first 40 years worrying about the older generation.....and the second 40 years worrying about the younger generation and they now have pills for another 40 years........

Jason b....... Still not clear on the policy........are you saying that a forum member who emails another to do paid work is NOT advertising his availability for GAIN. The legal profession may just have an alternative view on that. Jf

Jason b......it's not clear to me if your post, that follows mine is an answer to me or another post?

Assuming it was me.......would not the forum member who accepted the job, and presumably was paid for said work be a person who made a financial gain??????????

I am simply seeking clarification as to where the line is drawn. Jf

Jason b.........I have taken the trouble to follow theBIG PRINT of the moderator/editor and his additional post that follows it.

Some time in 2017 a person who was clearly running a commercial business (He actually said so) asked for help from an electrical specialist, in order to keep his or someone's business running, for which he offered payment.

Do you consider this is within the rules of the forum to which you allude

My view is that some form of financial gain was involved, thus contradicting the moderators own rules

Thread: EN32B Steel
19/12/2017 14:11:09

Slightly off topic....I am old enough to remember he railings and gates being removed for the "war effort" This was followed by a horse and cart collecting mums spare saucepans, the rumour was for spitfires!!

Some years later in my national service I found myself blasting away with a 3.5 inch rocket launcher(don't dare to call them a bazooka) punching holes in defunct military tanks on Luneburg Heath, in Germany, it did occur to me at the time that they might have been made from my parents old railings.

I guess that quantity rather than quality was the order of the day then...............perhaps it still applies!!!

Mr King...... Exactly where did I associate you with my comments which were directed at a specific statement made by Mr Charity???????

We do in fact share the same world (though the same planet is questionable)!!!!!!!!!!

When you use the expression "Fog of righteous indignation " should I interpret this as the will of the electoral majority

Who create the Parliaments WE rely on rely on to establish some form of order in civilised society???????

On a more harmonious note, would it be possible for editors to create a small section of a magazine a "small suppliers forum" where genuine small suppliers could submit samples, photos, finished work for the editor to decide if they complied with the spirit of the forum. If the photos were permitted to have a contact point in an agreed size print an occasional montage of such photos might become a feature of the magazine with whatever use readers may wish. The editors decisions would govern all matters. (No change there then)🕵

Peace and love to all at this time of year........jf

may I express an alternative opinion to mr Charity who states that "it's incredibly east to make money from a hobby I've been doing it for years" . It is also easy to snatch hand bags, stab people, and set up computer scams,or drive without tax and insurance. The wider Society we live in sets boundaries to our activities which determine what is acceptable/not acceptable

Once you accept payment or reward you become a professional and the world of your activity radically alters. You are required to inform your local council, home insurer, motor insurer, utility supplier THEY will decide if you will pay domestic or business tariffs. You may also have to comply with h & s and fire regs. You may no longer qualify for domestic waste collection and may have to use a regulated waste disposal specialist.

The concept that you are only a "little bit professional from time to time" may not be the official viewpoint on your activities.

I would suggest for you and your families benefit a product liability insurance would be wise.

As the moderator says it is complicated. You can stick as many fingers that you have to OFFICIALDOM , it's usually fine and dandy until you are accused of dishonesty and cheating those who comply with the rules and are required to suffer whatever penalties are imposed.

There is always a choice.........

I have been following(?) the above posts with little understanding

My impression is that somebody with time on their hands invents "technology". They then had to invent"frustration" to prove that technology exists......................envelopes and postage stamps seemed so much simpler

Remarkable what beaks and animal teeth can do,a spaniel called Merlin "adopted" us, our neighbours fence was patched with parts of a budget incinerator , the blighter knawed through it in an afternoon, we are talking 16G or so steel wire and a a hole big enough to get through, could not find a trace of loose metal , guess their digestive system is on a par with their teeth.
