Is there a trick to subscription renewal on line for ME?

I have tried several times without success. All goes well until I go to the payment section, when it alleges that my password is incorrect; which it isn't. When, in desperation, I say that I've forgotten my password and the appropriate box opens, it says that my email address is invalid; which it isn't. My password and email address were both accepted earlier in the procedure.

Please help.

I am also having problems, after having thought I had renewed in July, the link I had followed took me to the subscription page so I inadvertently took out a fresh subscription. In trying to rectify this I ended up with two subscriptions!

I should have a digital and print subscription to both ME and MEW, but now only have one for ME.

I have written again to the subscription helpline, as despite assurances that this has been sorted, it clearly hasn't, so good luck sorting out your problem. It may be easier to telephone on Monday as emails seem to take a long time to be answered.

Alastair

The subscription website is separate for security reasons so even if you are logged into the forum that password won't work for the subscription.

The first time you use it you have to tick the 'I haven't got a password' box and create a subscription account which is separate from your forum account.

Andrew

If the helpline haven't got back to you, copy your message to them to me [email protected]

Neil.

Hello Neil

I am having the same problems as Alastair Mcpherson when trying to renew my MEW subscription. Also the cost on the website is a couple of pound more than in my renewal notice.

I also note that there does not appear to be a way to renew the subscription for more that one year at a time.

As with the other subscribers this is frustrating and takes the shine of a good mag.

look forward to your help.

Mike

Hello Michael,

See my reply above.

The subscriptions renewal is a completely separate site for security reasons and needs you to create a new account with a new password. Until you do this it won't recognise your email address either.

I have posted about this on the forum and mentioned it on Ed's Bench a few times.

Once you get to the renew page you can choose automatic renewal.

If you want to take advantage of offers either renew by phone or set up a new subscription to follow on from the old one rather than renewing.

Hi Neil

I am having trouble subscribing.

I can find my details using my account number and the renew page so the software knows who I am

Sorry, we are currently unable to complete your order because either we don't ship to your country or you have products with mixed payment types in your basket.
Please call Customer Services on 0844 543 0064 (UK), +44 1604 251043 (International) to complete your order.

Yes I did this.
Please change your delivery address country or remove this product from your basket, return to the product page and select the delivery region 'Rest of World' instead of 'Europe'.

Using Windows 7 and Chrome browser

Got this from accounts. via email.
I am sorry to read you are having problems ordering online. Please try using another browser, if the problem persists please contact our customer service team who will be able to place your order for you.

Chrome should work.

Surely I do not have to ring the UK to pay

All I need to do is in some secure way transmit a card number

Oh..... And I have not been around here for a while because of work commitments. I Still enjoy the monthly read and looking forward to getting back to the workshop soon.

Regards
John

Hi Jason

Thank you for your response.

I received an email warning of the end of the subscription period.

I press "simply click here to renew today". SIC

A form pops up with my details.

It has my name and my subscription number on it.

I select (rest of the world) There is no option in the drop down list for Australia.

It shows the cost STG 53.15 for continuous credit card debit annually next to that a green renew button.
I press the button!

It shows me my basket 1 item

There is a checkout securely button. (I press the bottom one there are two)

It asks for my email address (I Give it) but it already knows it!

I do not have a password so select (no)

I press continue!

Up pops all my details..... name, address, post code, country, etc (Note it knows my country)

It knows who I am already

It offers me (Optional) account setup
It filled in my email address after the optional line
I gave it a password and reentered it
There are no more options.

I press Proceed to secure payment

5 minutes painfully filling in forms then this.

Sorry, we are currently unable to complete your order because either we don't ship to your country or you have products with mixed payment types in your basket.
Please call Customer Services on 0844 543 0064 (UK), +44 1604 251043 (International) to complete your order.

What have I done wrong? and if so could a direct link to the correct page needed to fill in the details be posted.

Regards
John

I have been following(?) the above posts with little understanding

My impression is that somebody with time on their hands invents "technology". They then had to invent"frustration" to prove that technology exists......................envelopes and postage stamps seemed so much simpler

Hello John,

We have seen this before, but I can't remember what was causing it.

I will try and get an answer for you tomorrow.

(It's about 11:00pm here so I'm afraid I'm off to bye-byes now!)

Just tried to subscribe to ME (already have sub with MEW), and it tells me all of what is mentioned above, things are not as easy as one would expect considering all the wonderful technology.

To the subs department............................

Well I am glad to see I am not alone.
Joy had no joy also,

Tried again tonight same old story.
It will not let me pay, although it knows who I am and has all my details delivery address etc.
Terrible software.

Regards
John

Maybe it is a particular computer that is causing the problem?

My first try(S) were on a Win7 machine using chrome.

Ok what about an XP machine?
I tried on that. Same scenario as above, this time got a "cannot register Maybe you are already registered message"

Well if I am already registered surely it will accept a payment?

What a mess

All I need is a page where I can enter a credit card number and pay my bill.

John

"Surely there is a plan B"

Do they do Direct Debit for overseas? That way it just renews automatically every year without you having to do anything.

John have you tried taking out a new sub rather than trying to continue with your existing one, go in as if you don't have an account and set up a new version of yourself.

Just another thought John, you say you clicked "continuous Credit/debit card" did you do this last time? as I think that option may automatically take the money from your card each year and that could be what is confusing things. In other words you are trying to pay agian when it is not needed.

Hi Jason

As far as I can remember that was not an option last year?
Is there a way for me to check my current account status and find if that box is ticked?

In my several tries I was unable to actually present a card number, the system stopped just before that point.

Or maybe you can get the office to check my account and see if that option is already in place?

John

So I wasn't the only one who had problems angry 2

Jason No direct debit from Australia anyway isn't available the reason I have been told elsewhere is the exchange rate. Mind you it would be far batter if we all had the same currency, got the same pay rate, paid the same for subscriptions too.
