Suitable Phosphor Bronze

Have been looking at various pumps for my full size flash steam project and considered using a commercial high pressure power washer pump which has ceramic pistons etc..

The steam car brigade use them as well but cost has put me off so will probably make a simple type similar to my model.

As with the model the pump cylinder would be a bronze cylinder pressed into an aluminium body.

Ram would be stainless but would like to use bronze tube for cylinder as it's such a waste of material machining from solid bar.

What grade of PB would be suitable if available in tube form it's also got to be tough and wear resistant.

The pump stroke is going about 2,000rpm maximum the model is a lot higher than that.

I'm almost sure that I have one of those pumps tucked away somewhere [condition unknown!]

Even if it's clapped-out: It would presumably make a good starting point for a custom build.

As SAE660 seems to be widely used. It might be the one you could get in tube form. I've only seen bronzes that have a hole in the middle - the walls are a bit thick to be called tube. eg this site. They also stock other bronzes.

If you want bronze, then give Leeds Bronze a ring.

They do mail order and delivery but £30 minimum charge which isn't bad as most bronze orders will be well over that

Here is my pump ... is this the sort of thing you are looking for ?

As stated, the condition is unknown: but it does turn over nicely with finger-pressure applied to the pulley.

For scale: The wooden box is about 11" wide.

Total weight is about 18kg

Thank you very much for the pictures and information I think the pressure might be not be high enough for my applications and weight is bit too high.

Looks like I will have to make my own maybe incorporate it in main body of the power plant to keep compact.
