12 forum posts | I am looking for an article in MEW concerning the conversion of a mill/drill to power feed using a car wiper motor. I regret I don't know the author. I think it may have been in the last three years. I have gone through my large stack of MEW (no, 2 to date) and index but cannot find it. I did find a two part article concerning wiper motor power feed to a Myford lead screw and which was useful, but not the particular one I wanted. Can anyone help, please? |

369 forum posts 41 photos | Not an MEW article, but there is a good Youtube video series on a wiper motor power feed by Stefan Gotteswinter. It has a nice dog clutch drive. Edit I see I'm too late by 2 minutes. But I'm not the only one to appreciate it obviously. Edited By Steve Pavey on 06/06/2016 21:06:21 |

1395 forum posts 30 photos | there was an article on raising a mill by inserting an aluminium block in the column which had an illustration of a wiper motor used to drive the Z-axis lead screw - I raised a query re this on this board - maybe this is the one?

1504 forum posts 142 photos | Have had a look through my files and here are some more I couldn't remember yesterday (Note: "Files" = big pile of loose A4 sheets in a wire basket) You are probably thinking of MEW no 201, which was 2 years ago, but this doesn't use a wiper motor. My favourite is in MEW no 50, uses a wiper motor, have seen it in use. One for a Naerok in nos 113/114, but doesn't use wiper motor (cheapo off ebay instead) The most elegant solution is from Dave Machin in MEW nos 14/15.

12 forum posts | I must thank you all for your efforts on my behalf and apologise to you all. I had read Rich Wightman's articles (MEW 225-226) and Peter Wilton's article (MEW 201). My befuddled 73 year old brain had 'logged' parts of both items and I think I made a composite article of both. My research had taken place over many weeks, interspersed with may letters to and from HMRC, in itself capable of befuddling anyone's brain. Still, I won that one with £25 compensation into the bargain. Should get me a wiper motor at a breakers. Particular thanks to ASF for the German links. His workshop is cleaner and tidier than my dining room. Thanks again, all. |

893 forum posts | Be careful which wind screen wiper motor you buy, as not all are designed to be reversed. An down window wiper motor is more than adequate and all are designed to go up and down. David Machin did an article in an early MEW on such a project, he included a circuit diagram of a speed controller which is very easy to construct. John |
