Draftsight 2016 now out

I've just installed the 2016 version of DraftSight (Free 2½D CAD) on my Linux laptop. The upgrade from the previous version went without a hitch with the option to migrate all your settings to the new version.

At last they have fixed the "mouse lag" bug in the Linux version.

draftsight 2016 installed. drawing parameters set up as per notes. scheme drawn. print model produces a drawing of approx. half scale. drawing sheet and the option to define a scale of 1:1 delivers a drawing of approx 2:1

The scheme can be drawn on A4. So where am I going wrong. DS notes suggest that print is a simple process.

Could it be that the scale difference is 2.54?
If so the units settings for the drawing may be wrong

2016 version still has the archaic out of date ACAD type command line format . If you have a 64 bit hard drive then the Solid Edge 2D package is much more user friendly.

A command line format in the right hands if far superior to stabbing icons with a mouse.

Especially when the icons bear no resemblance to the command needed.

Keyboard shortcuts and a command line make Autocad a superior product. compared to looking for icons it is fast, many drawings will require thousands of operations. Icons are useful for the less used commands.

If the command line was ever removed, and the ability to (not) use use the so called ribbon as compared to the classic interface, another frightfully modern and mad (Homage to Alfred Noyes), interface pushed by Microstuff a few years ago would not update my software. I don't like going backwards.

Draftsight implemented the command line for a reason, it works well for experienced users. It is fast.

In a nutshell it is fast. End of story.

I'm having printer problems with a newly installed Draftsight on my Linux PC as well, no matter what I do and I've checked and double checked all the settings, sheet scale, print scale and printer setup etc, when I draw a 100mm dia circle it always prints at 97mm dia.

It's very frustrating as having used Autocad for many years I find Draftsight easy to use with regards to the drawing commands.

Is it possible to calibrate your particular brand of Printer? I can do it with My HP 500 Plotter.

Maybe it is the printer settings that are causing the error

It looks like you can feed the drawings through an Acad free viewer to plot them correctly?

I wonder if this is an intended Draftsight feature to make it hard for professional use?. or is that thought just my grumpy alter ego talking.

Thanks for those comments and the links John, I pursued your suggestion regarding printer settings which may be the problem, I rang Canon but because my OS is Linux I am very limited in what settings I can edit, however looking at how I set up my drawings I have just found what seems to be a solution, previously I would draw inside a rectangle of 281mm x 194mm which gave me a 8mm border around my drawing and then print out on a A4 sheet at 1 :1, but this shrinks my drawing by about 3%, if however I draw a 297mm x 210mm A4 rectangle around the inner one and then print specifying 'fit to paper size' and 'all geometry' it prints to scale, I will make an A4 size drawing template with the inner border but instead of an outer rectangle just have 4 corner points for the printer to use as its datums. Just have to remember not to have any sketches etc outside the border or the command 'all geometry' will include them.

I've used both for many Years and and much prefer the Solid Edge version . John should try it before making comments. The S.D. version doesn't have Icons but has text boxes to fill in . If a line is drawn in SD the user has a number of helpful boxes such as length , angle , etc ( which move in real time when cursor is moved) to define the parameters of the line- much quicker and easier than typing on a command line.
