Hi all, From time to time I print plans from our mags but yesterday when I printed a page it printed in a 5 size with a 2 and 1/4" black band on left of a4 paper. Three weeks ago I printed Allan Brothers flywheel this was ok but when I printed the same page today it printed it in a 5 size. Both mags are printing the same.

Can anyone help I`m going through a lot of black ink.

I assume you mean the ME/MEW Archive from the ME Web Site.

I have just printed a random page from the latest ME and it printed A4 with no issues.

Have you changed your printer settings to print A5 by any chance?

Dave

Let us know which page came out with the black strip to narrow down any problem.

The printer settings should be checked, the printer is the arbiter on the size of the prints it spews out..If in doubt, when you ask it to print go into the setup on them print box that comes up and adjust for Portrait or landscape and format, ie, A4 or A5 etc.

I just printed off a page from the latest issue no problem via this site.

Can I suggest you access the magazine via Pocketmags and try printing a page from there, this should help eliminate the source as a problem assuming you were printing from here.

Also what shows up on print preview on your printer program?

Hi J I can only access MEW on pocket mags and it wont let me print a page there. The printer adjusts itself when a5 paper is inserted. I still have no problem printing from any where else , it just prints a4, 4 weeks ago everything was fine on our mags. and there is no place to adjust paper size in the printer except to insert a different size paper and adjust the side bars.

When you select print, a box should be displayed in Windows where you have to select which printer you want to use.

Highlight the printer, you should see a button just below or to the right of the printer list that says PREFERENCES, click this then another box should appear, in this select the Print/Quality tab (This may vary for different printers). Under this you should see the paper size being used ... This should be A4 Portrait. You can check all the other tabs as well to ensure it is all A4 and 100% magnification/full size.

It sounds like a printer settings issue. Sadly as every printer is different all you can do is look at the preferences and see if anything is changed.

Sometimes printing in another program can make changes that then affect printing with the next program.

Also, if your browser has updated this can affect how it prints.

I found that when I printed the telephone bill it printed A5, this was from TALKTALK. So in this case it was the originator of the print out.

As Neil says the original format of size/quality and colour is from the printer set up box. Maybe your printer does adjust by size from putting the paper in but it must be able to be overridden as if it did not i would not want that printer, the waste of paper would be enormous

Hi all, Many thanks for your feedback, on clicking on preferences there are no options for paper size only print quality and what printer . If it were a print setting problem I would have thought all pages printed would be the same but this only happens when printing from ME and MEW.

When I right click and select print the dialogue box that appears has a printer selection box at the top, with a 'properties' button to the right.

Bear in mind the archive viewer uses Adobe Flash and any default settings may be specific to Flash.

You aren't trying to print landscape are you? Or to print pages without zooming in first?

Hi Neil, When I go to print I click on the page which enlarges and gives me a box at the top which says print which I do. I did try to print on landscape and it printed A4 but I lost the bottom of the page .

I found it very frustrating when 'updates' actually end up removing useful functions. I recently discovered that my bang-up-to date version of Office will no longer open .DBF files, but apparently it has a 'much demanded' new 'black theme'.

Try LibreOffice. It should open .dbf files OK and best of all it's free.

Russell.
