Hi

I don't know if anyone can offer me some advice... Unfortunately my uncle recently passed away. We are trying to sort out his things, including a shed full of tools. None of the family have any idea what they are, their value or where we could sell them.

Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere that could advise us?

With lots of thanks

Clare x

Hello Clare,

Difficult time for you I am sure.

If possible it may help identification (and thus possible value) if you could take some simple 'snaps' of the unknown items and upload them to this thread.

Regards, Nick

Hi Clare

Check local directory to see if you have a local model engineering club, if so contact the secretary or chairman who I'm sure will be able to offer some advice.

There is most likely a member on this forum living close to you if you can add a Town in your post, obviously not your address though.

Clare

This link will provide a list of Clubs in various UK towns, perhaps a town close to you is named.

www.modeleng.org/ukclubs.html   (You will have to copy and paste the link into your search bar.)

Hi Clare

If you can email me some photos, I could give you an idea what stuff is worth and where to sell it. I am not a dealer but am a previous editor of Model Engineers' Workshop. I helped several people dispose of surplus tools when editor, one chap got well over twice the amount a dealer offered. If interested, send me a personal message by this website.

Your location might help as well Clare. Town etc.

Generally a dealer will only pay a small fraction of what items may be worth. They often have to charge VAT when they sell which part explains that. Generally some one selling privately would charge less than they would.

Thankyou so much for your replies, I wasn't expecting so much help! I will look into a local group, we are in Wolverhampton.

Many thanks

Looking at the photos I would think gumtree would be the best place to advertise them. We would need photos of the whole machine to estimate value.
