I posted this on the Yahoo user group, but no response as yet.

Can anyone define the crossfeed screw for me in terms of diameter, thread form, pitch, hand and length?

The lathe is Imperial.

I want to replace the screw soon but cannot strip the lathe at the moment.

Thanks in advance,

Charles

I found a post that says the cross slide screw is a ACME 3/4-5TPI on a Student.

Charles,

I can tel you that it's left hand twin start. If you are going to replace the screw you would be advised to change the nut as well. You can get these parts from 600 group but may find Robert Pringle based in Harlow are cheaper but still prepared for a shock.

Charles, have looked at the manual and can only advise part numbers, but there is a choice of Eng or Met and std or anti-backlash nuts.
The manual is available on Yahoo Groups Colchester Lathes group.

I think the chipmaster is the same as the Bantam, 9/16" diameter 10tpi pitch .200" lead left hand 2 start. I could possibly be able to knock out an EN8DM threaded blank to splice into your screw but I'm really busy right now. They are expensive because of the integral gear which I could also probably hob but if it is the sliding spline type, I have no cutter for the spline.
