Thanks Dave,

Actually just got an email from Diane with some sugestions, but 4430 and 4431 still dont work.

She sugested that the files do take her a long time to load up, so it occured to me that my system may be 'timing out' and displaying the usual stupid Microsoft message.

No idea what I can do about this, the previous issues load up OK (have just tested a few), so can only presume something is different with the two problem issues causing them to take longer to load up.

Any sugestions ??

Hi everyone (and Diane),

While we are on problem solving, something that has bugged me for a while.

I can't get "Default to last message" to work in "My Account/Website Preferances", no matter how many times I change it and save again it keeps displaying 'first' message in any threads I go to, even in this thread I have to page to the end of the messages to find the current chat.

OH!! maybe "Default to last message" means something else entirely !!

Regards

Brian K

you have to be signed in for 'default to last' to work. and it doesnt seem to work when picking a thread from the last few displayed on the home page - i usually pick a message from there, read it, then select 'latest posts' - then it does jump to the last page...

To "Steambuff"

Hi Dave, re you msg "I get a different Web address to you ..."

OS is XP SP3 and browser is FireFox 12.0.....

whilst my browser comes up with the ERROR
"Firefox can't find the file at http://www.mydigitalmagazine.co.uk/de/7/1433/"
the address actually showing is
http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/members/digitaleditions/popup.asp?t=13&i=1433
so is it re-routing me from the ME site to the MyDigitalMagazine site to actually look at the magazine ??
is something wrong with the link ??

Hi Russ (also in Oz),

Unless i forget to I am always logged in to the site.

Yes that works for me too, but it is only a work around a function that does not work.

To my mind when you toggle "default last msg" ON then it should apply to all readings of forum msgs, especially the "most recent" listing on the front page, otherwise what is the use of it ??

Diane, any comment ??

Brian,

I don't know what is going on ... http://www.mydigitalmagazine.co.uk/de/7/1433/  works for me OK.

I am using IE, so perhaps it is a firefox issue .... over to DC1 and DC2 I think

Dave

Yes, it should - but it's worked the way Russ described from day one. It was pointed out in the forums soon after the site started up so I wouldn't hold your breath ...

I hardly notice any more. I just click on the "most recent" link and then click on "last" without thinking.

This matter has been refered to the technical department. I am not even going to make a suggestion as to what the problems are. I have replied to Brian directly.

Out of curiousity, I have just tried this on the iPad

Simply changing the preference "button" did not have any immediate effect.

I needed to Log Out of the site, then sign back in, before the change took effect.

Hope that helps

Hi People,

Thanks to Diane and her "techie" friend, all fixed. Who said the tech people at ME are not helpfull.

Very interesting as the "techie" knew what the obtuse MS message meant as follows...

"Probably at some point the “mydigitalmagazines” domain name was temporarily down/unavailable, and so his browser has cached (remembered) that fact and now won’t try and get there. I think you should ask him to empty his browser cache and try again, as 9 times out of 10 that will solve the problem."

Even followed that advice with a link to a help site explaining how to do it for FireFox, on the same site has advice on doing the same for IE.

Did as he sugested and walllaaa! all now works, perhaps I should say that very quietly in case Windows hears about it !!.

By the way the "default last message" thingy still does not work, many thanks to all who replied with advice on the problem, will just have to keep using the workaround sugested by Russ and Sid. Sorry Michael, your fix does not work for me.

I look forward very much to the new isues of ME and MEW, gets a bit stressfull when i can't see them. Top marks to the editing staff and the contributers as there is always something of interest in both mags.

Thanks All (will go to sleep now)

Hi There

Early issues are not as good a quality as the later issues.

I will change the preview issue to a recent one.

Hi Jason

I have changed digital sample MEW to May 2013. I just picked it at random.

What digital thread.

I would have replied to a post on this thread.

It can be moved.

You can either do it or I can if you tell me the thread.

regards David

David Click on the bold text in my reply above for a link to the thread where the guy was saying that the quality of the sample image was poor. There is also a link to this thread in that one which is probably why you have posted here

J

PS while you are on can you shed any light on the missing cam details raised in the "Best of...." thread

Hi David - Greetings from USA - Is it possible to get a better copy of the drawing shown in Issue #4286, page 568, lower right hand corner? The drawing cannot be read.

Thanks Morgan
