So Neil, when is the winner going to be announced? It shouldn't take you long to judge the entries Well folks have until midnight to add their entries! Neil |

Oh dear Rather atypical of me, but I didn't read the opening post carefully; I presumed that there were still weeks to go, and now Procrastination has trumped Brinksmanship . Domestic duties take precedence today, and we're out this evening ... so I will just release my design concept: A pair of 'axle stands' carrying a cross-shaft, pierced to take a candle. The candle is clamped at its mid point, and can therefore be adjusted to burn one end or the other ... or both [supposedly making it ideal for those tight-deadline jobs]. MichaelG.

Neil I hate mince pies. And Christmas. Cruel, cruel world - I ate my first mince pie of the season just to get its aluminium cup for this project and the sacrifice was wasted. Another crumby fan design that won't spin properly despite attempts to Whittle it. The disaster is getting on my wick so I'm going to taper off. The only good news is Neil opening the door to virtual entries again. I reckon I can rush a couple of hundred out by midnight. That'll lighten his darkness. Dave

Dave Is the candle under the tip of the blades? It looks like it is near the centre of the Oh, and didn't Neil say that any more virtual entries will result in a life forum ban?! |

Dave Is the candle under the tip of the blades? It looks like it is near the centre of the Oh, and didn't Neil say that any more virtual entries will result in a life forum ban?! Is the candle under the tip of the blades? Not in that particular photo, but I've tried it all ways, with different heights and offsets from the chimney. Thin foil fans work OK if I quadruple the height of the lightning conductor but they look horrible. I'm pretty sure I could make a good looking working fan from a thick foil dish used to roast a turkey but I won't get to the shops until late tomorrow. That's my excuse anyway! What's typical of this latest Flambeaulox is me assuming that the fan was the easy bit; actually they're harder to make than they look, specially if you haven't quite got the right material. As to the possibility of a life forum ban, perhaps some good will come of this after all! Dave |

![]() 3988 forum posts 1799 photos | Hi, well hears my effort in all there blazing glory. Probably not as good as Rod's, but I like them and I've finally found a use for this industrial scrap that I've had for the last 15 t0 20 years, I knew they would come in handy one day. Might even make a couple more one day, but they would have to be shorter as I haven't got enough of the stainless steel splined rod left to make them the same height. Here's a couple of photos of the main parts before reworking them, although the base on the top right had already been machined when I took the photo, so it looks much the same only cleaner. Regards Nick. Edited By Nicholas Farr on 10/11/2017 23:22:01 |

Then you might as well have extended the deadline until midnight tonight, and Michael G could then have entered - you would almost have doubled the number of entries! |
