Works everytime, honest.

Hi Steve
I hope it doesn't come to that.

I had a good day today, I made and fitted the valve guides, cut the valves to length and put the e clip cut in.
after assembling the valves in the head I put the liner in the cylinder jacket and bolted the head on.

then I jammed a piece of soft plastic tube ( aquarium air line) in to the plug hole and fixed the other end to a small air compressor I have, it gives about 40 psi.

holding my hand over the bottom of the liner it blew the line out every time so I assume the valves are sealing.

the only thing holding me up now is the timing pulleys and belt.
HPC are out of stock of the large pulley.

more news as and when.
Roy

Well they say pride goes before a fall!

I thought I would make the timing disc seeing as I'm that close to finishing and I was idly twiddling the camshaft and it suddenly hit me with a thump that the cams were in the wrong positions.

however a quick dose of heat from a small blowtorch soon broke the shaftloks grip so I'll do it again properly .

I would have sworn I followed the instructions to the letter, obviously not.

all I can say is " what a prat"

a rather annoyed Roy.

Steve:

Funny, I made exactly the same error!

Thats amazing, it makes you think that the instructions were wrong.

I'll have a good look tomorrow.

I've got two videos of it running but I don't know if they will work on here. they are on Photobucket at the moment but it looks like I can only use youtube here.

Thanks Clive, I wish someone would explain to me how to put a youtube link in a post, I tried using the youtube button on the r/h side of the strip above but it doesn't seem to work for me.
this forum software is not helpful at all.

That's the smoothest sounding one I've come across - nicely done!

I did notice you haven't fitted the blue smoke generator, a key feature of the version I built

Thanks for the video clip, I've been looking forward to seeing it run.

If you fancy moving on to a twin, David Parkers Vega 9cc twin is worth a look. There is one running on Youtube.

Thanks Steve, I passed on the blue smoke, I didn't think the neighbours would be best pleased.

I don't know what to do next, winters coming and an unheated garage is not the place to be.

I'll have a look at the twin tho, are there any plans anywhere?

Hi There
Can you enter this engine into the Model Engineer Exhibition in December.
The Nemmet cup is up for grabs.
regards David

Hi David.
I would dearly love to enter it but living where I am it's about 350 miles to the show and I imagine it would have to be there before the show opens and then picked up afterwards.

thats four trips or about 1400 miles.

I'm sorry but that's just not possible, the thought of the petrol bill alone is frightening.

thanks for the thought tho.

Cheers
Roy
