Solution found to the World's biggest problem . . .

Yes I am looking out for them, and I have a wildlife cam plus Some CCTV around, we love watching the wildlife in our garden which is kept wildlife friendly plus being quite wooded.

Unfortunately our area is becoming victim to creeping big house in walled / gated garden syndrome which seems unnatural and counterproductive to wildlife.

Well said JP1, we try to keep our garden for wild life and are rewarded daily by their visits, next door has just bricked the whole front garden up so thats a bit more habitat gone, oh dear 🐦🦉🐝🐞🕸

Getting ready to go up to Windlesham after Xmas for a 2 day course on hedgehog management at a shelter supported by Brian May. Have to take photos of our garden (attached to a 1 acre paddock) with great access and hedges etc. Hope that we get the go ahead to foster some hoglets etc.

I rescued one off the road recently and took it to the vets, it fought bravely but sadly died, my missus and I were both gutted!

I suddenly have visions of chaffinch nests across the land all beautifully and precisely lined with aluminum, copper and steel swarf because the model engineers are friendly but there is no moss in their neighbours Astroturf lawn!!

Martin, do feel free to PM me with any useful guff on Hedgehogs - I think our garden is pretty friendly for them (i have various small log pile areas against the garden wall and lots of leaves around) and we have at least one big fat fella visiting but I rarely see youngsters so would like to learn more.

Used to be working away then turn off the machine to hear scratching outside. Hedgehog crossing paving slabs then down past the garage and through side gate.

Have that concrete 1ft high slabs under fence and local woods is only 125 yards away.

Delighted to say that I have a hedgehog hibernating in the garden and a family of newts in the pond and for the last five years starlings have nested in the garage roof.

i agree with Danny M, just can't understand why scientists and almost all politicians won't or cannot see it!

I saw my first pine marten on Sunday! Crossed the road ahead of us.

My brother says he has seen up to three at a time raiding people's bins.

Where was your pine marten? I gather that two were found killed on the road in Dorset a few years back - when DNA tested they were found to have come from E Europe!!! Still it is nice to know there are some there, though I have yet to see one.

I'm a little worried that repetition of Dave's graph might be giving it more credibility than it deserves.

My original comment was really a sarcastic poke at journalists who come up with amazing "new" ideas that most of us have known about for centuries . . . but it has prompted some interesting discussions about a subject close to my heart, as a lover of the countryside and wildlife.
