Yes, Martin - firearms manufacturers have always seemed slow in producing rifles and shotguns for left-handers. If you fire a right-handed auto shotgun off your left shoulder, you get a hot spent cartridge case in your face when you pull the trigger. If you try that trick with some military rifles, you get smacked in the eye by the bolt handle. During WW2 a pal of my dad's got held to ridicule for suggesting the formation of a left-handed regiment, with left-handed rifles and other weapons.

There is, or at least was, a left-handed rifle club, and I can recall seeing them shoot at Bisley in the 1980s. And one of our leading competitive rifle shots, Barry Dagger, was left handed. But then, Leonardo da Vinci and Albert Einstein were also left-handed.

Now I cant tell my left from right smiley I meant my left arm over the top of the rifle to use the bolt, the right arm was in the sling, I had the stock in my left shoulder and sighted with my left eye, the bolt was operated by the left had as was the trigger.

Doctors go on a special course to teach them how to write like that! Chemists go on a similar course to enable them to understand it. That they do so,never fails to amaze me,it looks like it was done by a spider with a bad leg.

Just try to make out the name on the warranty on some of your gear,I never could.

I recall a program some years ago on "That,s Life" dealing with this subject and some of the examples were a sight to behold, and no mistake !. Most of them were from people holding important positions ! Enough said !

There,s hope for us all !!

Maybe if the Screw Thread was invented in the Southern Hemisphere, it might have been L/H form.....same way as water goes down the Plug 'ole !.

I'm also a generic 'Leftie' like writing and most agile/strongest arm and hand, All over the place otherwise- Golf,Cricket, Chainsaw, Drill and eat with Knife R/Hnd'd , Handsaw, Shoot and use Screwdriver/Spanners with Left.

I steer clear of Black Powder Flintlock Muskets !!!!!.

Let us rejoice that we have some of the greatest men of history on our side !!

Just wondering------Does that mean that we should be better able to cut left hand threads ?

Just wondering,that,s all !!

My only difficulty was when using a Lee Enfield .303 rifle in the ATC as I had to pass my right hand and arm over the rifle to work the bolt as it was away from me.

Non comprendez!smiley

Used to shoot with a guy who modified the bolt handle  on his  .303 so it stuck out the left side of the rifle , basically he just lengthened it and bent it so it looped up and over the receiver .

Looked funny watching him shoot it as the bolt had to be cycled upwards to lock it .

This was a quite common modification to Anschutz .22 match rifles in the 1980s, and yes, it did look odd to see someone lift the bolt to lock it. Eventually they got around to producing "mirror image" actions.
