I have read in regard the letters W V U the following however its seems a bit greek

for start connection join ( X,Y.Z ) and connect U(phase 1),V(phase2),W(phase3) and Delta Join(U,Z) phase 1,join(V,X)phase 2,join(W,Y) phase 3

normative DIN (GERMAN ) use the first letter U mean (oder)V, W (ELCTRICAL MACHINERY) AND (R) (S) (T) FOR electrical terminals phases 120° degree R is not Run , S is not Start , T is not Time

I presume this is for Three phase so not applicable

Correct, this is for 3 phase and nothing to do with reversing them.

Reversing a simple single phase motor should be a quick swap at the motor box, it will only go in one direction but there are no complicated three way switch issues

Adi that is really interesting I need to get my head round these motor start capacitors as they are a lot smaller now as the components are more discreet. I presume there was only one type now I see there are many. I have located a new aluminum box and some other parts but have to get back to order them.

Do you think this could be replaced with this or are they different please

A 25uF 450V AC capacitor is a suitable replacement for a 25uF 430V AC one, especially as they are both designed for use as motor starting capacitors.

Thanks Neil I need to get things smaller on my motor since installing gearbox so wanted a smaller cap .. If I have a rotary switch do I connect this capacitor at motor end or at rotary reverse controller please.

Starting capacitors are in series with the start winding otherwise it wont work.....followed by a release of smoke as the windings melt....

This is my first try at rewiring the remote switch. I have wired the capacitor in series . Am awaiting my cable gland unions to try it with the cable and switch wired up hope it looks ok

Have made connection to connector in box on motor. Am still awating cable glands and have to build a capacitor mount.

Hi Brian yes something went wrong with upload here is my first disgram again:

I have mounted up the new electric equiped kitty motor onto the lathe to check it all fits . I have left wnough cable to aloow me to site the switch anywhere . However probably think it will go on front .

I Made up a bracket and bolted on switch

My first go at wiring this tripped the consumer unit. I am not sure why. Can anyone confirm my wiring diagrams are correct? I have live on 1 and 3 connected to neutral.

Having sorted out the earthing problem. I have one direction travel on the forward control but no reverse this turns of motor when leaver is in reverse. I presume this is another wiring issue as it was a reversable motor on old switch , one of electrical  people here solved that for me.

Am hoping they can again

Hi Martin,
I have jusr re read the thread from the start but I am still not sure what you are asking. I don't know how you have the motor wired at the moment so I can't say what is wrong. Can you post a FULL diagram of how you have it connected at the moment so I can try to work out the mistake you have made. When John Rudd asked you to identify the main winding connections, the start winding connections and the centrifugal switch connections did you do so ?
