147 forum posts 30 photos | Thats fine - and like they say a picture tells a thousand words - I get it now - the draw bar holds the tool and the sleeve is held in place by the tool - Looks like the sleeve has to be just shy of the gauge line of the tool otherwise it wouldn't sit flush on the end of the spindle for the drive "dogs" ??
So the IN30 tooling would be the best option ?

223 forum posts 16 photos | I believe that there is a very small length of parallel after the gauge line ? Int 30 was a natural choice, didn't see any thing more suited IMO. Plenty of 30 around at fair prices if you watch out. I was lucky that my machine came with a clarkson chuck on a Herbert taper. Apart from that I have adapters with the use of the sleeve to morse for drilling and a 30 tool for fly cutting. I don't think I can mention Arc Eurotrade?, so have a look at one of your forum sponsors as a starting point of the auction site. Pete |

223 forum posts 16 photos | I am not sure which casting is broken on your machine, that pic of mine shows the top of the knee mainly, big issue if that is broken . Edited By Pete White on 24/10/2020 09:16:54 |

223 forum posts 16 photos | That looks like a nice machine. So Herberts went their own way with tapers more than once ! They certainly knew what they were doing, must have had good reason. The single slot in the table is sometimes a challenge! Pete |

147 forum posts 30 photos | Hi Pete After looking at your picture it looks like the casting which holds the handle is broken - the section where the oil nipple sits - looks like an easy fix - can you send me a picture of the underneath of that section. I PM'd you my email address. Thanks Steve |

I have one of those though mine has a 3-slotted table. I use R8 tooling in mine - John Stevenson adapted the spindle for me. |

2610 forum posts 312 photos | Pete Sold it around 10 years ago to someone who lived in North London so he may be a ME club member somewhere. I used it for about 8 years and found it very versatile, loads of clearance table to spindle and a huge spindle with slow downfeed and/or lever operated with adjustable graduated depth stop. Head tilted left and right 0-90, the motor was 3 phase 2HP 415v so I ran it from a rotary converter. The single Tee slot was OK except for securing a Taylor Hobson tilting rotary 6" table, for that I drilled and tapped the table at the points required, holes blanked off with threaded brass plugs when not used. Fitted a BW DRO to the table and used it for both X and Y axis moves, had a single axis BW unit on the Z axis so any backlash on the screws wasn't a problem, except of course for climb milling. Spindle speed changes were by belt changing but I used it at the high speed setting for almost all work. Emgee
