It may be that after long use slight wear has made the commonly used tapers an even better fit. Some form of elector system is the answer. Neil Uuumm .... At the risk of appearing daft, what is an elector system ?
I think Neil meant 'ejector system'... George.

![]() 856 forum posts 212 photos | OK so I forgot about this problem as the weather warmed up. I cleaned all the tapers i use on the milling machine and the bore itself. The problem seems to have gone away for now. Trouble is it does not end there. I was running at top speed milling some bronze the other evening and the speed counter stopped working. Before i start dismantling the think has anyone else experience this problem?
Is the speed calculated via the drive or is it a counter of some sorts on the spindle?

![]() 338 forum posts 48 photos | Hello Bri, I had the same problem on my Weiss. Look under the cover at the top of the spindle. There is a plate which runs through a sensor. This became contaminated with grease. Gave it a clean, and it worked as it should. I could send a photo in the morning, if that helps. ATB, Daniel

![]() 856 forum posts 212 photos | I removed the top cover but there is nothing hiding in there. I also had a look in the control box, there is a ribbon cable that goes from the digital display to a small circuit board and that looks ok? This is the circuit diagram that came with it.
No signs of a tacho?

Will try tomorrow

![]() 338 forum posts 48 photos | Hi Bri, I would remain convinced, for the moment, that the tacho reading is more dynamic. Can you post some photos of the general gubbins ? Hoping to help, ATB, Daniel |

![]() 856 forum posts 212 photos | Hello Daniel,
It looks like you were correct. The motor is mounted on a plate and underneath is the disk and counter unit.
Running at high speed has sent all the grease outwards and into the unit.
Thanks for your help.
Brian

7227 forum posts 21 photos | Putting a cold arbor into a warm quill would cause this problem. As the quill cools, it shrinks onto the arbor. Probably already said! MT tapers don't need a lot of end load to grip. Too much and they do become hard to remove. Howard. |
