Thread: Januarys MEW? |
23/12/2017 14:33:02 |
Steve Every time a new mag is published I have to re-enter my subscription number in Pocketmags. Did this morning so I could look at the latest MEW. Haven't checked to see if PM have released an update to the app yet as I can keep going back. As I said only seems to happen on new issues. Murray Haven't had an email from PM the last couple of times even though the email box is ticked |
Thread: What Did You Do Today (2017) |
16/12/2017 13:34:41 |
Remind me of when I was in the TA 40+ years ago, I had been sent to Aldershot to collect a Landrover and Wombat A/Tank gun from workshops. The Wombat was towed with the Venturi and breech facing the rear. I pulled up at some traffic lights and a driver from behind came up and said did I realise the gun was loaded. Dropped the breech down and found someone had left a practice round in. They were full size made of wood but with Brass tip and charge case at rear and that is what he could see through the Venturi, think he was worried I would hit a pothole and set it off. |

Hello Neil , yes you can pass it on. I also sent a copy to the museum and they are adding the information to their records. |

In ME4573 Roger Blackhouse wrote about a visit to Hulls Streetlife museum. He mentioned that Hull transport engineers built a model displyed at the British Empire Exhibition. My wifes grandfather Samual Garton is one of the men in the photo he is wearing the apron standing at the rear of the model.

Thread: Warco GH1236 vs Chester Crusader |
15/10/2017 15:49:21 |
Hi Otley Both Chester and Warco are shown as being at the Midlands show at the end of the coming week. It might be worth dropping them both an email to see if they are bringing either of the machines you are interested in so you can compare them on the same day. |

Thread: Acorn rake |
24/09/2017 17:28:20 |
How about an electric lawn raker . You could hire one to see if its any good before splashing the readys. My problem is a bit bigger. Walnuts. You step on on of them even with shoes on and you feel it. Damn squirrels keep hiding them around the garden and I've got several shoots that need digging out and one that was hidden in a shrub thats now reached about 4 ft. |
Thread: Propane / Oxy |
16/09/2017 20:52:04 |
I saw a demo at the Midlands show by Helen from Western Steam and Keith from CupAlloys making a small boiler. The boiler was heated first using a propane torch before Helen finished things off using a Oxy turbo kit. I think there was a video on CupAlloys site |

Thread: Straightening small copper tube |
01/04/2017 16:07:34 |
One method I read about and have tried was to cut off a length longer than needed. Clamp one end in the bench vice and clamp the other end in a pair of mole grips at right angles to the tube and then give them a whack with a hammer.I did this without annealing so the tube wasn't stretched |

Maybe give a zoo with a reptile house a call and see if you can pick the brains of the keepers, after all they are the experts. They might even have an in house building team who should be able to give you construction tips |
Thread: Radius Tool |
26/01/2017 17:58:36 |
Have a look at this **LINK** its for a ball end but looks like it could be modified to make the radius on the handle. You say you dont have a mill but if you have a drill press you might be able to drill a tapered hole or hold the taper bit in the chuck/collet on the lathe and clamp the workpiece to the toolpost. My 9 yr old oven packed up Boxing day. A internet search using the make and model number bought up a number of suppliers of the element together with instructions on youtube of how to replace. £25 inc postage and it was ready for Sunday roast |

Correction its J12 exit not 11 |
13/10/2016 17:58:53 |
Just back from a day at the show but for anyone going over the next few days using M40 J11 follow the Model Exhibition signs and not your SatNav. There is a section of the Fosse Way closed inbound hence the diversion you can go back via the Fosse Way they are doing some work at a bridge and its single lane one way. |
