Thread: Don Young Combined Vacuum/Steam Brake Valve - Problems in achieving a tight fit between valve spindle and the steam brake valve |

Given that the valve assembly will be in contact with hp steam, which grade of Loctite would the team suggest? |

Thread: How to draw a set of holes on a PCD using Autocad 2000 |

Martin - Problem now resolved using the polar array command. DC31K - Yes, have also had success selecting the OSNAP NODE option Many thanks guys.It is a very helpful forum. |

Hi - I am having problems in drawing up a set of holes on a PCD using Autocad 2000. Having successfully DIVided the circle into the required number of divisions I was expecting to be able to ‘snap’ onto the division points to draw the required circle of holes but have discovered that OSNAP settings options does not seem to recognise the DDPTYPE markers inserted using the DIV command. Can someone please explain where I might be going wrong.

Thread: How Much is this Costing Me? |
08/08/2022 13:00:26 |
Has anyone carried out any similar power consumption checks for a Myford S7 when left running at idling speeds? Sorry but can't supply any details on the SP motor to reveal the model/reference number details as this would involve moving the whole ensemble away from the wall and that is a no-no at the moment. |
Thread: Modifications to a Sievert 871901 Light Line Burner |
03/08/2022 12:03:11 |
I have always found it difficult to light my Sievert 871901 Light Line Propane Burner, the problem being that without covering the air holes at rear of the burner the rush of the incoming gas extinguishes the igniting flame. The answer has been to roll up a sliding brass sleeve to cover up the air holes for igniting purposes and then to slide it back to expose the holes once the gas stream is alight. No claims to originality but it might just be new to someone and it has certainly has answered my problem. The attached pics shows the sleeve in operation.

Thread: Hermes and couriers |
01/08/2022 20:19:21 |
I have not used Hermes since they changed their name to ENRI but it would appear that they no longer accept Paypal as a means of payment. If this is the case and I would prefer to use a courier who does offer this method payment can anyone recommend some possible alternative services. |

Thread: Designs for a 1/2" hacksaw blade type parting off tool holder |
26/07/2022 18:23:56 |
Many thanks to all who have responded to my request for some design detail. I am now in the process of making up my own version based upon the ideas shown here. |
25/07/2022 16:46:45 |
Hi Bill - Yes, it is the Chronos unit (or one very much like it) I have tried using to hold an hacksaw blade but the blade is not a comfortable fit and I was hoping for something better. |
25/07/2022 15:53:06 |
Hi all - I have been experimenting with using conventional 1/2"W x 0.025"Thk hacksaw blades for use as a parting off tool with the principal aim of being able to put in a narrow run-out/undercut in various brass steam fittings currently under construction. Problem is finding a design of tool holder suitable for holding a hacksaw blade given that the one I use for the standard Eclipse type parting off blade is not really suitable for the job. Can anyone recommend any more suitable designs for the holder? |
Thread: The best advice I was ever given/gleaned - Keep it on the Stock! |
23/07/2022 18:18:49 |
.Having just completed a job on the lathe which involved turning followed by a cross drilling exercise reminded me of the old pearl of wisdom about keeping the piece part on the stock for as long as possible and to leave parting off as the final operation. Never a truer word was spoken |
Thread: 123 Blocks |
20/07/2022 11:48:06 |
I have two pairs of 123 blocks in my stock which I have never had much use for largely beacuse 1) they are not obviously 1-2-3 by design (metric or imperial), 2) they only have holes drilled through from the front face and not from the edge and 3) None of the through holes are threaded. Do they have any potential use as 1-2-3 blocks? |

Thread: Using Pan/Zoom Extents in AutoDesk DWG Truview to control the final view of the required printed image |
16/07/2022 10:24:31 |
Thanks Martin, problem now resolved. |
15/07/2022 17:45:15 |
Thanks for that but perhaps you can tell me how to set limits in Trueview. |
15/07/2022 17:18:52 |
I am using Autodesk DWG Truview to print selected views of drawings created in an old (2000) version of AutoCad. The technique adopted is to open the drawing file in Truview, use PAN to select the part of the display required to be printed followed by Zoom Extents to hopefully fill the view with an image of the required size. The problem I am finding however that the sensitivity of the Zoom Extents function as currently set is too coarse with the result that I cannot obtain the final degree of ‘tuning’ to give the required view, the image appearing on the screen being either too small or too large to make optimum use of the A4 paper size. Can anyone suggest how this problem may be overcome? |
Thread: How much would you expect to pay for a litre of EOLYS Fluid? |
14/07/2022 21:52:57 |
Spelling error - I think the name of the fluid should read EOLYS |
14/07/2022 19:44:31 |
I have just had my PEF additive reservoir replaced on my diesel SUV and was amazed to be charged £128 + VAT for a litre of EOYLS fluid to fill the new tank. Naming no names of course but a quick search on the internet would suggest that a litre of the stuff can be purchased for something around £40 and so I would like to know what is going on here. Before taking it up with my garage I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had any simlar experiences to draw upon. |
Thread: Advice on how best to convert a 3/16x40 Plug Tap into a Taper Tap |
12/07/2022 10:27:37 |
Well, despite all the doom and gloom and with absolutely nothing to lose I gave it a go using the Dremel with the tap indexed in the lathe and have achieved a useful compromise, the test nut running quite happily up the modified tap. |
