Thread: Supply issue latest magazine |

My ordered ME has not been delivered to the village shop yet, and WHS in Dorchester dont have any either. Taking out a subscription shouldn't be necessary with a permenent order. Brian. |

Thread: New lathe arrived today : The ongoing saga |
02/11/2015 19:41:00 |
Brian, I can't believe that you even need to think about whether or not to send them a report. If it was me I would send them a report and an invoice for the time spent getting it to the condition it should have been in when they sold it. Cheers, Brian |
Thread: The Ass is out of the stables |
29/10/2015 19:17:41 |
Is it a requirement to be paranoid to be a Model Engineer, or just to be on this forum ?

Thread: Vertex |
26/09/2015 09:48:37 |
While I don't have vast experience of Vertex tools I do have a 4" milling vice and a surface table. They are well made and the vice has had about 12 months use without any problems, and is accurate enough for my requirements. I would (and probably will) buy Vertex tools again. Vertex are a Taiwanese company, not chinese for what it's worth. In my fairly limited experience where tools are concerned you generally get what you pay for. Brian

Thread: 25 years of Model Engineers' Workshop Special |
09/07/2015 13:28:40 |
As of yesterday afternoon there were (believe it or not) 2 on the shelf in Winfrith Village Stores - must be something to do with me getting my ME there. Brian |
Thread: generating own power |
15/06/2015 19:41:16 |
Alex, I am a bit surprised by your comment regarding Inverter Generators and the quality of thier output. They are not designed for 'lighting and other resistive loads' - a standard generator will do that quite adequately. The Inverter generator rectifies the output from the alternator and then electronically produces a good quality sine wave suitable for powering digital equipment, computers, televisions etc. These days its fairly difficult to get a decent generator (depending on power level) that hasnt got an inverter output. cheers, Brian

Thread: Electrical question re transformers |
04/06/2015 19:24:17 |
Murray, I would be interested to know your reason for being against paralleling transformers. Provided that the secondaries are identically wound then there will be no circulating currents, and the output current available will be doubled at the same voltage. Brian

Thread: What angers/upsets you in the Workshop? |
10/05/2015 15:00:26 |
Martyn, I assume that you are referring to the old din standard backplate that Chester have fitted on the DB10 lathe (seig super C6) for the 5" chuck. If so pre machined backplates are available from ArcEuroTrade - as are most backplates. Quite why Chester don't stock them is beyond me - bad business practice at the very least - but that's their decision. Brian |
Thread: Choosing a bandsaw |
29/03/2015 21:42:43 |
I have had the previous model of the Axminster UE-125DV Bandsaw for several years now, and I have no complaints whatsoever. It does what it says on the tin to coin a phrase, good value for money in my opinion as a satisfied customer. Regards, Brian |
Thread: Brooklands to be restored |
17/02/2015 19:16:15 |
Ah, many happy memories from my apprenticeship days with Vickers/BAC. Brian.

If the email has come from a genuine banks email address then it's just made to look like the address, it's really come from a different address.
As as for someone taking over from Royal Mail, TNT have delivery people out on bikes everyday in manchester delivery post from companies. So they are getting close... Chris, I notice that you paricularly mentioned Manchester, I live in a village with a population of 700, up a farm track. What do you reckon are my chances of getting TNT out here on a bike delivering post ? Brian
