Thread: Vevor x-y table

I suppose actually they are dumping, but good luck proving it.

John

The EU stopped China dumping dirt cheap below cost solar panels here a few years back,

if I'd been King-for-a-day I'd have bought the lot

If I needed one I would buy it ASAP before they ban them

The way domestic prices are going it won't be long before large numbers of people start using these solutions to save money

Your first 30 litres each quarter are free since there's no standing charge

Not been disappointed so far, some nice bargains over the black friday period (but one bargain seems to have been kidnapped by Hermes)

Always worth keeping an eye out for whats on offer with them, got a 750W reversible sewing motor for under 100 which is very flexible, it even ran my full Drummond gubbins (countershaft) when I tried it out

They did 38mm bore hobby lathes not so long ago and I don't doubt for an instant that fettling would be needed

(if I wasn't buried in Drummonds I would have seriously considered getting one)

Lots of cnc stuff lands from time to time too and the cnc guys snap the good stuff up, also got a vevor wire welder which has done well so far

My guess from a few emails is that it's a group of chinese outlets using "Vevor" as an import vehicle

It's the heat I struggle with now, trying to keep going when you're panting like an old sheepdog

Once you learn to work in the cold it's actually the preferred option IMO

Got another tip today, make a pilot arc cutter for a dollar

You don't even need gloves

They need to be scaled up to be reasonably useful, size matters

Local authorities don't like them (planning issues)

Farmers can put them up with permission

Yachts have used tiny ones for decades for small scale use, I've also seen a few for roadsigns in the country

Thread: Banks
05/12/2022 10:55:03

Getting the banks to re-open and provide a decent service is easy

Re-instate Post Office Banking so that a minimum level of service is provided for society, then the banks can't drop below that level or they will cease to exist in the retail market

I find society interesting insofar that the MORE our great leaders do... the LESS useful stuff actually gets done

Sealing things up too well hampers ventilation

My sealed garage is like a barn with the wind whistling through the big doorframe top and bottom

10 years now and no issues

My current newer warmer type house has had condensation issues in the past but we learnt to ventilate during the daytime and these issues disappeared

No condensation issues in the tenements of my childhood either, because the wind whistled right through those damned places

When I work in the garage in winter I'm wrapped up for the outdoors, if it's too cold to start with I do cleaning work to warm up properly, hoovering etc

There was an automatic advert stopper for TV video recording touted a few years ago

Mysteriously vanished... maybe they paid him off

Had a squirrel, Arduino and Pi are mentioned

Thread: Any Parcelforce delivery issues during strike?
02/12/2022 10:35:30

Got an EVRI one that's still with Santa after over a week

I think all the delivery companies are letting things slide now that Royal Mail are not up to much

It's a pattern most private companies follow

When Post Office Banking was trashed the banks started closing all their local branches en-masse

Not so good in an unheated workshop as the winter draws on, but thats the only drawback I can think of.

Clean up if it's too cold

Hoovering brushing, moving, shifting, tidying and after 30 mins you're toasty and can do some decent work

If you're workshop is perfect... then do somewhere in the house, the stairs, the shower, whatever

Never fails

You won't get anything in the post

It simply comes off your Electric company bill

I got an email from the supplier saying it was being applied

30/11/2022 10:22:23

It comes straight off the bill at source

I'm registered nowhere for nothing and haven't received a bean from anything ever

No direct debits either

but I got this one, it comes directly through the electric company and gets deducted from the domestic bill

Thread: How to release MT1 taper
30/11/2022 01:04:37

I got fed up of banging mine out with a hammer and drift and made a 6mm slot like the big drills have

Sometimes they can get pretty tight

Tap the taper release drift to shove it out, its a roundbar welded to the back of a triangular flatbar

And always remember to lock the tailstock and tailstock spindle before assaulting it by whatever means you employ
