Before buying an inverter, consider you already have a 900 rpm motor which now doubt can be reconnected in Delta, why not make up a control box using two banks of capacitors. Both banks are used for starting and then just one for running. The details, values etc are in the late JIM COX's excellent book. EX fluorescent lamp circuit capacitors work well.Ted
I done this on my Elliot shaper it does work but you do lose a lot of power from the motor. congrats on getting the 10m shaper you will find it a great useful addition to the workshop best wishes martin

thanks for directing me to AHC they do have a excellent stock and I will use them in future they stock bsf bolts. unfortunately they don't stock 3/8 bsf grub screws I going to order from emkay supplies with a few other bits to make the order larger I didn't think it was a good idea in the end to cut 1 inch long ones down as they damage easily when holding them thanks to every one for replying it is very much appreciated Best Wishes Martin |

Norman, the 1/2" long are out of stock from that seller that's right he is the only seller as well. There is another seller that sells stainless 1 inch long grub screws so I suppose I could cut them to length Best Wishes Martin |

Martin, Please confirm the size you require as 3/8 sounds too large for most Myford applications. Do you want them to replace the two square headed screw with half dog points which are 3/8 BSF item KA26? Eric yes that is correct Iam making the hemingway saddle chip tray and the original square screws foul it so heming way recommend to use the grub screws which are used on the newer machines Best Wishes Martin

Thread: over inflated prices is this a mistake |
28/10/2013 10:27:01 |
browsing through a well known tool supplier on ebay I noticed that some items had a over inflated BIN price for example 6 inch Indian made rotary table over £900 set of turning tools for myford over £500 etc is there a reason or is it a mistake

Once again they should be one magazine not two. Mags were better in the 80's and before so I only buy it when I see something in them that interests me.
Bri I'm really pleased there are 2 magazines one for tools one for steam I buy both excellent magazines keep up the good work. That really angers me when you go in WH Smiths and see people blocking up the gangway reading the magazines with no intent of buying all magazines should be sealed why should someone buy a magazine which has got a load of thumb prints on it Edited By Martin Walsh 1 on 20/10/2013 10:58:57 |

So, chuck it in the scrap bin then? Or in my case, put it back out in the street and the gentlemen with the old Transit pickup will take it in the morning, no questions asked. Martin.
You could use it as a door stop or a heavy duty paper weight

If a 3 jaw chuck is still running out by a few thou after cleaning out the thread on the mandrel and the chuck making sure everthing else is spotless correct me if Iam wrong after taking the backplate off the chuck could'nt you drill the holes in the backplate a few thou oversize and again take a few thou off the index on the backplate put the backplate back on put some silver steel in the chuck and tru it up with a DTI and tighten up the bolts would this be ok to do Best Wishes Martin |
