Slightly off topic, does any know jf a Fiesta Haynes manual does cover replacing the fibre timing belt?

Or simply says you need £1000 of special tools, take it to a Ford garage!

Wife's Eco Boost is 10 year old next year, working ok but so was Bev's until it wasn't!

"Why use rubber belts when chains would work without issue?"

Timing chain

If you were to read through your Discovery 4 manual, you’ll see that Land Rover’s official recommendation is to replace your car’s oil every 15,000 miles.

Most owners have found this to be insufficient, however, as leaving an oil change this long is known to cause other issues including damage and stretch to the timing chain.

Hi Martin, it would appear that is not correct.

"The car has done 45,000 & i regularly service inc oil & filter. the oil level was correct as was the water".

Hi Steve, my wife has one of these on a 2014 plate so thanks for the heads up. After the warranty period I took on the servicing but I did the oil and filter approx every six months because I clocked the internal fibre cam belt.

From watching Youtube what do you think of getting the oil pressure checked to see if it falls off at high RPM?

Seems the simplest option to see how blocked the filter gauze is. Last oil change, I was in agony for a week, so taking sump off is a no no.

When I drive it I usually hit 5000 RPM at least once!

I remember seeing a kid back in the 60's failing his MOT having the fully drilled for lightness front brake torque rod facing the wrong way around, under compression. Even I, just starting out with motorcycles spotted that potentially lethal mistake. Under tension, the link would have been dicey because of the overdrilling.

Another way for TLS is having the cable do all the work, with the outer on one lever and the inner going to the other lever, used on BMW's, I think. Bicycle vee brakes used this method.

The BSA conical hub used this method.

Thread: Differential Screws
30/10/2022 08:48:03

Hi Michael,

From Wikipedia:- (in case of a single lead equal to the thread pitch), and possibly opposite handedness, on which two nuts move. As the spindle rotates, the space between the nuts changes based on the difference between the threads.

This is not the full description, but the word "possibly" may mean not everybody agrees it's differential.

If they are not left and right hand threads I don't see how it could be differential.

My head hurts all the time now!

Thread: Fitting thin-walled Oilite bearings
29/09/2022 19:19:50

Hi

Hi-jacking the thread little bit!

Would a 1mm wall thickness work for a camshaft bearing made from an oilite bush?

There is an oil supply from the engine.

The ID is 12mm and the OD is 14mm, the OD was machined down.

I thought the sintering might break down.

Hi Martyn

I did something similar for a Bultaco gearbox bush and as Tony suggests I had to drive the lead screw because using a mandrel handle in the spindle didn't feel right, something was going to strip. My lathe is the ubiquitous Chinese mini lathe with plastic change gears.

Didn't John Stevenson modify a digital calliper as per Jason's link? I've looked through a hundred of his posts but not able to find it before boredom set in! Best I could find is the picture below just to show his sense of humour.

Do shops have to honor pricing mistakes?

The shop may agree to honour the lower price, but they are not obliged to. If the mistake is noticed when you go to pay for the item, the seller has the right to refuse to take the wrongly advertised sum and withdraw the product from sale until they have remedied the error.

Pulled this from the tinternet, don't know how true it is. USA may have different laws.

Unfortunate but best to always handle goods handover yourself in future, that's one of the problems with sold items being collected with cash payment.

Hi Emgee

He turned up unannounced. There as no agreement on the pickup time.

Ebay scam ??

Did you accept his offer of £30 officially on ebay as normally once you do, ebay automatically ends the listing.

However, system errors can happen.

Hi br

Well It it says sold for £30! I'm sure in the small print it ill be my fault.

It's the way the guy has done it . He gave my wife £30 he knew what the price was .

Just been scammed on Ebay.

I had a site transformer for sale starting bids at £20 plus offers. Cash on collection.

Guy offers £20 thought nah let the auction roll.

Bids £30 thought ok.

Unbeknown to me Ebay haven't stopped the auction running. Guy turns up unannounced I'm out gives wife £30 then says sorry its £20 look. He's just bid on the still running auction! So wife see's £20 bid on item.

Be warned!

H David

Look up trigon inserts. WCMX0301-SMALL BORING-BAR CARBIDE INSERTS -SUMITOMO.QTY5.

And see if they look similar.

I thought mine were triangular and by chance came across the above and realised they weren't!

Hi David

I would be interested.

Above was my attempt using macros.

You enter the change points for the job and away it would go. I broke the lathe motor drive after fitting a new PC and didn't set all the parameters correctly so I don't think I actually got to cut metal with it.

It now sits at the back of the garage.

Correcting The Apron Faults On The Chinese Mini Lathe, Episode 3 - YouTube

Hi Darren

The above YouTube video shows a problem someone found with the detent position (about 9 mins in).

Unfortunately his version is a double half nut which my confuse the issue.

As mentioned by John the half nut is full of crud. The mechanism seems sloppy and a definate lack of lube.

Never had mine to pieces so can't give you any first hand experience.
