Thread: Another thread on buying a lathe |
14/08/2013 18:27:03 |
Hi Big H, a friend of mine has an older Sieg C6 and is satisfied with it. Warco 250 VF has a larger spindle bore (25mm) and power cross feed, but a slightly higher price. As you say, you get what you pay for. Thor |
Thread: Tom Senior Universal Milling |
12/08/2013 06:36:38 |
Hi dpsingh, What kind of taper in your milling machine? If it is Int. 30 you should be able to buy an arbor. If you know what kind of taper you should be able to measure length, diameter and other dimensions if you wish to make your own. There is also a Yahoo group - Tom Senior Milling Machines - have you tried asking there? Thor |
Thread: Vertical Slide |
11/08/2013 19:18:49 |
Hi Harry, Most of the Myford vertical slides you can buy from RDG are a bit smaller than yours. From your photos it seems that you can mount it on the cross slide, have you tried using it for milling operations? If it works, why not use it? A larger slotted area means you can clamp bigger work. Thread: WARCO WM-250 lathe family and WM16 mill - 001 |
10/08/2013 17:32:00 |
Hi Rik, I agree 75mm dia. rotary table is a bit small. I have a 100mm dia. and often find that too small, so I made a slightly larger one (120mm) after Dean's description. You could make your own in a size that suits you. As long as the rotary table is flat on the milling table your mill should handle a 150mm rotary table. Thor |
Thread: Simple Conversion of a Unimat SL to sharpen milling cutters |
06/08/2013 17:56:32 |
Seems to be simple to make. I have made a cutter holder with a MT 2 spindle, and mounted it on a small X-Y table. The Unimat is used to grind the cutting edges, I use an ordinary aluminiumoxide wheel though. From your pictures it should be easy to mount a diamond wheel. Thor. |

Hi Mike, have you asked the EmcoV10lathe Yahoo group? They may be able to help. Thor |

Hi Jerry, I don't know if this is what you were looking for? Here's another with plans in dxf format. Thor |
Thread: Cutting a 4" hole through 1" thick aluminium, The lazy way! |
28/07/2013 06:05:37 |
Hi Ian, I have done something similar but always used the handwheel on my rotary table. As you say, yours almost do everything by itself! I suppose the bearings in your rotary table has much less friction than mine. Nice video. Thor |
Thread: Advice on repainting a Myford S7 |
26/07/2013 14:19:39 |
Hi Knurler, Paint should be available in larger quantities, here are a few links: Here's a description of a Myford restoration. Hope this helps. Regards Thor |
Thread: Plastic/brass gear cutting |
25/07/2013 16:50:16 |
Hi Knurler, as you say you need a dividing device - dividing head. If you want to buy one they are rather expensive if you want one with a worm and wormwheel. An indexer is of course cheaper but more restricted inits dividing capabilities. A cheaper way is to make your own. I made my own dividing head, and on the web you can find several descriptions, here are a couple: Dean's simple dividing head, Tony's is based on a Taig headstock. I think they should fit your milling machine. Thor Edited By Thor on 25/07/2013 17:00:38 |
Thread: Using coolant |
17/07/2013 17:03:35 |
Hi Dennis, Like Trevor and Andy I don't use a flood coolant, For a nice finish I too apply coolant with a brush or similar. If you use emulsion as coolant you should clean the lathe afterwards and oil it. My experioence with emulsion is that if you leave it you get stains on slideways. Thor |
Thread: Fire |
16/07/2013 18:17:13 |
Hello Dias, sorry about your fire, awful to see your Emco and other tools in the state your pictures show. I have an old Compact 8 myself and would not like to get it destroyed. From your pictures it seems your cleaning process works, but a loss of work I guess. Best regards Thor |
Thread: Carbide Cutters |
11/07/2013 07:27:48 |
Hi Alan, if you can use triangular (uncoated) inserts you can try RDG. I have silver soldered worn (uncoated) triangular inserts onto homemade holders. Just grind and hone before use. Here's another carbide supplier. Regards Thor |
Thread: Manual and parts. |
07/07/2013 06:29:16 |
You should be able to buy a manual and parts lists here, contact Tony at: [email protected] . The Yahoo group ColchesterLathe-User may be able to help you, in the Files section there is a Bantam manual for download. I don't know if it is for your version. The subject was also discussed on this forum. Regards Thor Edited By Thor on 07/07/2013 06:32:02 |
Thread: Cleaning hands. |

Like Martin I usually wear gloves when working in the workshop, so oridnary liquid hand soap is enough to get my hands clean. Thor |

Hi George, thanks for the link to the Viscosity Classification. On my new lathe the drain plug is situated on the underside of the apron, at the left end closest to the headstock. I have a photo showing the apron. Thor Edited By Thor on 02/07/2013 18:21:39 Edited By Thor on 02/07/2013 18:22:25 |
Thread: lathe stand ideas pls |

Hi Mick, I am building a stand for my new lathe from rectangular tube (50mm) that a friend will weld together. I plan on having shelves on one side and some drawers. Here are a few websites about making your own lathe bench (hope you find them useful):

Thread: New WARCO machinery |

Hi Rik, you have used the available space very well. I am sure you will enjoy youre nbew machinery. My slightly bigger lathe makes quite a bit of noise when running. Thor |
Thread: Unimat 3 vertical milling column |
21/06/2013 05:37:12 |
Hi James, i don't have the 3 version, but an older one. On this the total length of the column is nearly 300mm. It seems that you can buy the mill/drill attachment from Pro Machine Tools if you want a new one. Thor |
Thread: WARCO WM-250 lathe family and WM16 mill - 001 |
18/06/2013 05:49:26 |
Hi Ed, first time I have heard that the gear change knob has jumped out of position. On my slightly large milling machine there is a spring loaded ball that holds the knob in Hi or Lo position. Never experienced any movement of that knob on my machine. Your sound proofing sounds interesting. Thor |
