Vertical Slide

Once again an item that came with my Myford super 7 it's a larger vertical angle slide which looks to large for the Myford I would welocme comments and ideas of what it might fit and value thinking of selling it on ebay and then purchase a Myford one.Have included some pics of iplaced on the lathe and basic approx dimensions.

Slotted area 200x100 mm

Overall hight 335 mm

Tee slots 12 mm

Tee nut stamped WDS 664 92 with a 1/2 whit tapped hole

Hi Harry,

Most of the Myford vertical slides you can buy from RDG are a bit smaller than yours. From your photos it seems that you can mount it on the cross slide, have you tried using it for milling operations? If it works, why not use it? A larger slotted area means you can clamp bigger work.

I would agree with Thor, Harry, the larger size may be usefull on occasions, keep it and use it. Most users of a vertical slide will I think agree with that having occasionally wished their slide was larger.

The Vee slot may be useful on occasions but a problem on others when securing small parts using table clamps. However, I think this could be overcome by some meens when the problem surfaces

I would though advise that you use a toolmakers style vice as these give much greater flexibility as to where they can be positioned. This includes vertical or horizontal, or any angle between.

Comparing this with Photo 5 should show the benefits of using the toolmakers style vice. The toolmakers vice is also likely to have a larger work holding capacity.

I have one of these and I think this slide was made for a Harrison lathe. It is much more rigid and substantial than a Myford one. I would keep it if I was you and arrange a central bolt that can enable it to fit your Myford.

Thanks for your comments so far I do have within the box of items that came with the lathe a Myford fixed vertical slide and must agree it looks quite flimsy when compared with this one.

Harold was thinking of getting such a vice off to Bristol the weekend so will see whats on offer there.

Thor have not tried milling yet on the s7 screw cutting is as far as I have got at the moment !
