Hi Jon,

I simply used a rotary file to mill the V shape since I had one, see here. I have also used a multiflute contersink.

Thread: Cutting Oil Fumes
15/06/2023 19:25:21

Hi Justin,

As I said in my 2021 post, when using carbide tipped tools I usually don't use any cutting oil for the roughing cuts. I do use oil for a light finishing cut as it seems to improve the surface finish.

Thread: How did these work theory or practice?

In Norway wood gas generators was used during WW 2 to fuel the cars of ordinary people. You didn't get as much power as you would from petrol but at least you could drive your car. I think grey alder was the best wood to use.

More about wood gas generators here.

There are a few things you can do to make tracking you a bit more difficult, just do an internet searh. But I guess full privacy is difficult in our internet world as we leave electronic traces.

Hi Chris,

Sumitomo or Glanze indexable tool holders are good. Arc has Sumitomo with 10mm shank. Chronos stocks Glanze.

Thread: Mill recommendations
20/05/2023 07:18:14

I have a Mini Mill, it doesn't take up much space. A larger and heavier bench milling machine means you can handle larger work and take heavier cuts. Get a milling machine as large and heavy as you can find space for.

Have a look at Arc or Warco to get info on various machines. I upgraded from the Mini Mill to a larger machine.

Thread: First workshop
17/05/2023 09:11:07

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations with your first workshop. Your workshop may be small, mine is a bit larger, but with a small lathe and milling machine you should be able to make your engines. Using the vertical space is good advice. I have small drawers underneath my bench. Journeymans workshop might give you some ideas although his workshop is larger than yours. It has also been discussed on this forum.

Thread: Parallels
14/05/2023 18:28:25

The wavy ones work well under thin work because they can be compressed somewhat. A pair of straight ones is what I use under work that is wide enough to accommodate a pair of straight parallels.
