Thread: Chuck nuts...... |

I've tried them on my 250 and found it no quicker. My main problem is that the chucks are so tight on the register that most of the time is spent easing the chucks off. I can change, from start to finish in 4 minutes. |

I've noticed light rust marking under the milling vice and also under the lathe top slide. Quite alarming at first sight but it rubs off ok,leaving a stain. I dont think it's anything to do with the degreaser. Just up the oil content a bit if you're concerned.Doubt whether it'll stop the marking though..John |

George, I also have a 250. When you say 1mm doc, I assume you mean 2mm on the dial? I also use a tangential for most of my work..John |

Jopo .. Mine ran off a speed control but the backlash was so bad I had to do something about it. It is rather a bulk hanging under the table and feels a lot better now its off. Thanks to 'd'costa' who is a member on here, I've started to make my own power feed. Will put more photos in my albumn as work progresses. John |

I have the same machine. I took the feed motor and gearbox off and put a new leadscrew an nut on. Bought from 'Marchantdice'. Of course you lose the power feed so I'm making a feed to fit on the end of the table by using a stepper motor and related gubbins. John |

Ross. To run a 3 phase motor using a 240v 3 phase inverter from single phase 240v house mains, the motor must be dual voltage. These motors are shown on the motor plate to run 440v wired in star or 240v wired in delta. To change them is a simple matter of connecting the wires as shown inside the terminal box. The sellers photo of the motor plate is very blurred but it looks to me like its single voltage i.e. 440v and no good for an inverter. you will need the purchase a dual voltage 3 phase motor for it . A 4 pole motor would be best (slower) Hope this helps .. John |

Zambuk, never heard of it but sounds good stuff. Tried to take my thumb off with a Stanley yesterday (you would think at 62 I would know better) Went for the superglue and got the top off with one hand... Hard as rock ! made do with a plaster to pull it together. In the shower this morning the plaster came off and what a baby I was, just a small line on the back of my thumb. Amazing how much better it looks without all the blood . |

Doug, that made me laugh. I'm at the ripe old age of 62 and can't say I've had those feelings yet. One thing for sure though is that whatever I do I won't die rich . Look forwar to the photos..John |

Thanks for that Dias, very helpfull. Read the driver details and I see the speed pot and direction are all with it.Will see about getting the bits together ...John |

Dias, thats great just what I want. How do you control it ? How do you power it? How do I calculate the size? Do I need to gear it down as you have? I know nothing about it and have loads of questions. Thanks for putting the pictures up. Perhaps you can point me to a forum where I can learn a bit more.John |

Hello, hopefully someone can advise me. I have one of these machines **LINK**. The standard horizontal version, the previous owner aquired a vertical head for it which works well enough. There was a lot of slack in the X and Y directions so I've fitted new leadscrews and nuts. The problem is I've lost the X power feed and need to make one. I suppose a windscreen wiper motor conversion will be too weak for this machine ? Would it be possible to use a stepper motor and presumably a driver with a directional switch and speed cotroller or will I have to set up a 1 axis cnc machine ?? I have a spare laptop so could do that. Any idea how big a motor I might need ? I wouldn't know a Ncm if I fell over one. Hope someone can help. Thanks John. |
