Thread: LBSC drawing costs
02/12/2021 14:01:15

Never mind the drawings , their castings are either a third or twice the price of other suppliers for the same thing

Thread: Swindon Wheel Castings
07/05/2021 09:33:42

Thinking of the work involved with new wheels, spinning the exising set between centres and fitting steel tyres would be far easier, and you can easily buy steel thick wall rings to turn up the tyres, think there is quite a bit of useful info on the GL5 website Forum on this topic, they are heat shrunk onto you existing wheels

Thread: BA screws and nuts
08/04/2021 19:29:21

I have brilliant service from" Items"

( Mike Sandivan) who stocks a full range of BA sizes, next day delivery without fail, used the service yesterday, will send an uptodate catalogue on request

Thread: Locomotive wheels
05/10/2020 15:12:00

I don,t think you could do any better than looking at the GL5MLA website and bring up the pages on standards, all the info you will need is contained in the wheel standard page. There has been a number of articles in M.E. over the years on wheel profiles, David Hudson and Dennis Monk were two members that did a great deal of work on the topic which were incorporated into the GL5 standards, look at the back to back measurement as well, which has changed since your drawings were produced

Thread: Central heating woes.
20/04/2020 09:43:02

I would find the leak first, and then repair, -- joint leak or boiler and replace or as Maurice suggests radweld or other make of water sealant and then repressurise and bleed radiators

Thread: Problem with EMCO FB-2
15/04/2020 09:39:54

While we are talking about the FB2 mill, I have one fitted to my Emco V10P lathe, following a house move the top

casting was broken, item 2 in Barrie Levers drawing, any suggestions as to where I could get a replacement?

Thread: New Nimrods arriving
05/02/2020 10:11:20

Should be ideal aircraft to blow up the French and Spanish fishing fleets that invade our waters

Thread: Why mostly manual cars in UK
05/12/2019 14:17:08

It has been most enjoyable reading the posts ,agreeing with all the views as a driver of both manual and automatic

gearboxes, gaining pleasure from both, but one question haunts me, why do we need driverless cars? the vast amount of money and resouces that car manufactures are pouring into their development leaves me cold.

I would be one that would be listening to the engine ( or electric motor) and making a grab for the wheel, pleasures

of life in driving cars will disappear, progress?

Thread: Decent drawings for an LNER A-3
03/12/2019 14:52:54

I would support the post from Weary, many say that they were the most detailed and accurate drawings produced

for a 5" gauge A3, your castings will easily meet the measurements for the

A3 drawings

Thread: Metrication of models
04/10/2019 16:37:05

I thought that when we left the E.U. we were going to revert back to imperial measurements in line with

the US of A and the rest of the world

Thread: Austerity Locomotives
03/05/2018 08:54:14

There are 5" gauge models of the Austerity 0-6-0 running, and there are a number of the 2-10-0,s about

and a really brilliant 2-8-0 in Holland that is brought over to U.K. on visits to club tracks, but as already

said see Blackgates catalogue with the Clarkson designs

Thread: New old member now hiding in Lincolnshire
14/04/2018 08:44:10

Welcome back to Lincolnshire, If you are into 5" gauge railways, you will soon have plenty

of places to visit in the county

Thread: 2-6-0 Horwich Crab
27/02/2018 09:03:59

Hi Stewart, Thank you for sharing your Crab build it is/was most enjoyable to see such rapid and quality progress

Thread: Class 2 Standard 2-6-0 by Don Young
01/01/2018 16:35:45

Hi Barry, just to support Julians post ,it is a super little loco, you may already be aware that Model Engineers Laser do a load of parts for both t. and t. versions if you want a quick build. There are a number of both types running, and one or two are super detailed, there is a modification on the combination lever which improves the valve events by John Heslop, you will see it in the letters page on one of the LLAS issues, and it does work!

Thread: BA threads. Why the tpi?
23/10/2017 09:51:11

I thought when we left the E.U. we were going to revert back to the imperial system of weights and measurement

that is what Boris said

Thread: Alternative places to buy / sell machines.
11/10/2017 16:05:59

Have you looked at--- " homeworkshop.org.uk " a really good site for private machine and tools

in the M. E. arena

Thread: Any caravaners on here
27/09/2017 08:20:40

and George, dont forget the cheap red diesel, and no roadfund duty to pay!! but he will be able to reverse into a building with a couple of inches to spare on either side and many other skilled tasks that would leave the vast majority of caravaners open mouthed,

Thread: LMS 2F Experiences
22/09/2017 08:50:14

Yes the boiler plates were not flanged, but nobody would build it like that ,The model was built to a scale

of 1" to 1ft, not the usual 1 1/16" which is the norm for 5" gauge , but other wise a nice little model

Thread: Newcastle/Durham lad saying hello...
12/09/2017 07:51:21

Hi Symon, If you need any practice, I will send you a few dozen wagon wheels, welcome too a really good forum,

Thread: Build a GWR Pannier tank loco.
09/07/2017 17:49:40

A huge number have been built, and run very well ,staying and working in steam for 8 hours or more, but a little advice , start building ! while it is well worth while spending time looking for errors, it is so easy to wait until you think you are going to build the perfect engine, it will never happen, Doug Hewson has redrawn , and produced lazer cut part to scale, Don Ashton has produced improved valve gear arrangements, I thought I would do the same for theB1 ( Springbok) which has more errors than would fill a book, and wasted years, could have had two built two by now LBSC did produce engines that would run and work, go fot it!!
