Thread: Quick Change Gear Box
20/09/2023 20:25:50

I have a Myford Super 7 with a quick change gearbox. The lathe and the gearbox are both imperial. I got the chance to buy a long bed super 7 but when I got it home the lathe is a metric lathe and the gearbox it Is fitted with is imperial. Does that mean I won't be able to cut metric or imperial threads on it? Is there such a thing as a myford metric quick change gearbox?

Any help is welcomed, Alan

Thread: Myford 7R Shelf Removal
23/06/2021 11:45:11

Hi, I have a Myford 7R on an industrial stand and I would like to fit a chest of metal drawers in the centre section of the stand. This would mean the shelf in the middle section would have to come out however I think it is spot welded (although i can't see any dimples where the welds are). Would anyone know if the shelf comes out or do you think it would weaken the stand.

Many thanks for any help or advice you can give, Alan.

Thread: Drill Query
30/11/2019 21:19:32

Hi,

I picked up this drill (hope you can see the photos, if not they are in albums titled drill). at an auction and I cannot find anything like it on the internet. I would like to know what it is intended for. The chuck opens to 4mm which makes me think it could be for a watch, clock maker or laboratory, it is a very sturdy piece of kit. I removed some of the cap head screws and they are imperial threads. It has two speeds. The quill has about an inch three quarters up and down movement. Would anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks in advance for any info you may have, Alan.

Thread: General Question
14/09/2019 17:38:59

Hi,

Hope it is OK to post this here.

I order 3 items off banggood on 10th June and so far only one item has been received, when i query the others they say they are at customs but are on their way and should be with me shortly. I have ordered from them before and had the items delivered quick enough.

Has anyone else had this issue and how long do you think is reasonable to wait.

Many thanks, Alan.

Thread: Buying a Reel of Bandsaw Blade
27/05/2019 18:44:55

Hi,

I am looking for advice on buying a reel of bandsaw blade so I can make my own blades for my 6x4 vertical horizontal bandsaw and what number of teeth would be best for cutting 6x4 mild steel. I will be silver soldering the reel of blade. I enjoyed Mr Crispins videos on YouTube but he hasn't posted any in a long time, does anyone know why, I hope he is ok!

Thanks as always in advance, Alan.

Thread: Rotary Table
21/08/2018 19:29:12

This clip is made out of spring steel with a springy curve in it to hold it tight against the brass washer

21/08/2018 19:14:34

I have a rotary table with no name on it but it looks identical to Warco HV6 6inches. i also have 3 dividing plates for it to make it into an indexer the trouble is the clip that holds the sector arms is missing. An ordinary C clip keeps coming off, would anyone know where these clips can be purchased. Thanks in anticipation for any help you can provide. Alan.

Thread: 6x4 Bandsaw Problem
13/02/2018 19:21:25

Need help with my 6x4 bandsaw. It goes through blades like crazy. It does cut really straight. I would cut a lot of cast iron in sizes from 6x4 and 5inches round. Also mild steel in 5 inch rounds. The blades I have been using are 14TPI. sometimes it just sits on the cast iron and does nothing in the largest sizes. Can anyone help on best blades and number of teeth. Thanks in advance. Alan.

Hi, I seen a demonstration of adjustable gauge plates on you tube but it was an American video and the man demonstrating called them 'a poor mans gauge plate'. He also said he had gotten them from Grizzly - are there any of these stores in the UK? I think I have seen these for sale previously within the UK but cannot remember what site etc... Can anyone help? Many thanks

Thread: Tool and Cutter Grinder
13/10/2017 19:02:35

I can't seem to find these to purchase online I've searched for both ALOX and the number given in the book - BA 46 N 8 V and come up with nothing. Can anyone advise where I could possibly get them? Many thanks

10/10/2017 19:22:24

Harrold Halls video on tool and cutter grinding - does anyone know anything about the two wheels that he uses on the grinder? Would they just sharpen HSS or would it do carbide also? Have googled and searched and not found the answers though maybe I just don't know what I am looking for? Thanks, Alan.

Thread: Help Req ref Wobble Broach
04/07/2017 19:20:20

Thanks very much Jason.

Sorry for the delay, not very good on the computer so always have to wait for someone to assist.

01/07/2017 20:11:07

JasonB thanks. I will have a go at trying to grind the cutters, As I said I made the Harald Hall advanced tool and cutter grinding rest but never linked it up to a grinder. My question is does anyone think this would do? Also the steel Jock recommends is Aisi 4340 or 4140 is this the same as en 24 T. Any help appreciated.

I feel must say something in Michael Gilligans defence. It's numb-scules like me who could learn from him, he gave a lot of time to this forum. I for one will miss him. I think courtesy is what he deserves. Michael please think again for the likes of me and many others.

Thread: Help Req ref Wobble Broach
29/06/2017 19:53:36

I recently came across an article in issue 157 about making a wobble broaching holder by Jock Miller. Has anyone on the forum made this? I did make Michael Cox's rotary broaching tool and this done a great job but I now need something more industrial so that I can purchase commercial broaches. Jocks plan shows the broach holder 8mm, do you think it could be drilled half inch as this seems to be the common size for commercial broaches also the steel he recommends is Aisi 4340 or 4140, the steel supplier I use suggest it is now en 24T. Any help would be appreciated. If it was not possible to drill the tool holder to half inch do you think Harold Hall's advanced grinding rest would let me grind the cutters. From HSS I made one of these but never used it.

Thread: Upcoming Events
09/10/2016 13:28:52

Hi,

I usually go to Harrogate show but it has now been moved to Brooklands and so I can no longer attend, There are no shows like this in Ireland so I would be keen to find out if anything else is on in England. Can anyone recommend a good show for me to attend. The Events page on this site only seems to give April and May unless I am doing something wrong.

I do know there is one next weekend in Leamington Spa but very unfortunately we cannot attend this one either.

Thanking you in advance.
