Harrold Halls video on tool and cutter grinding - does anyone know anything about the two wheels that he uses on the grinder? Would they just sharpen HSS or would it do carbide also? Have googled and searched and not found the answers though maybe I just don't know what I am looking for? Thanks, Alan.

The wheels Harold uses are AlOx which are perfect for HSS.

If you want to sharpen carbide though it's pretty straight forward to apply the same principles to a set of diamond wheels of similar diameter such as those from ArcEuroTrade here http://www.arceurotrade.co.uk/Catalogue/Diamond-Tools/Diamond-Grinding-Wheels

Hi Alan,

Aluminium-oxide wheels (white) are used to grind HSS tools, a Silicon Carbide (green) wheel is used to grind tungsten carbide tools. An Aluminium oxide wheel would not be suitable for grinding tungsten carbide tools.
You can of course also use Diamond or CBN wheels to grind carbide tools.

I can't seem to find these to purchase online I've searched for both ALOX and the number given in the book - BA 46 N 8 V and come up with nothing. Can anyone advise where I could possibly get them? Many thanks

Hi Alan,

You don't say what diameter wheels you need so I assume for a bench grinder and that you have checked ARC, the link supplied by Jon.

This company advertise white ALOX wheels 150 or 200mm dia., as well as "green" wheels. Here's another.
