My question is, practically, do 5 micron read-heads matter for an ambitious ML7 user hoping to aim for sub 1 thou tolerance? (from time-to-time; not always!) I would say a bit ambitious for a "Newbie" Robert Butler |

The type of clamp illustrated is similar to the type used to secure lids on metal drums, there seems to be several advertising, but unhelpfully sized by drum capacity. Might be worth a call? Robert Butler |

Posted by Donald MacDonald 1 on 01/04/2022 15:20:49:Hopper - And no, as I have already said, I will not JUST be using it under a cutting mat. Please stop over-thinking your answer and just attempt to answer the question. If you have nothing of value to add please then please don't!
Perhaps you should try stating your problem clearly in the first place instead of -- once again -- drip feeding often contradictory information as members spend their time coming up with solutions for your partially described problems that never seem to be up to your exacting standards You can't hope to do precision -- certainly not to the standard you aspire to -- work on a folding table. A length of 4" x 2" timber wall studding cut up and screwed together will make a stout table frame an four legs for your MDF boards and cost about the same as one or maybe two cups of skinny soy latte coffee. Could be made with hinged legs for folding up. Or hinged off the wall with two outrigger legs. A bit of lateral thinking should solve most of your problems. And being rude to those spending their time trying to help you is probably not the way forward, either on the forum or in life. Hopper, Hear! Hear! well said! Robert Butler |

workshop heaven have these but 300mm is out of stock. Mike, no good as it upturns at one end and cannot lie flat as specifically requested by OP. Donald? try Machine DRO, but it looks as 0.5mm is included on most of their stock items - but you can safely ignore every other division as most would under the circumstances when it comes to over graduation. I'm relieved to note on this occasion there is no requirement for high precision but perhaps more in keeping with an artists "broad brush approach". Endlessly amusing! Robert Butler |

Thread: Myford Lever Action Tailstock Design and Build |
14/03/2022 13:09:07 |
It's unnecessary to screw cut the clamp, all that is needed is a good fit to the threaded section - per my original Myford ML7 lever feed tailstock which is still in the workshop. The clamping screw does the rest. Robert Butler Edited By Robert Butler on 14/03/2022 13:10:17 |

PS < As stated above in another post. f the content is not of interest to you, or you find it "distasteful", then don't read it or get involved - that the thread has run to 3 pages suggests that others do find it interesting. So on that basis, the financial names thread was of interest to others - enough said. Edited By br on 10/03/2022 08:25:21 Bill I think you are being unnecessarily sensitive, Jason was using the posts to illustrate a point rather than, I quote "picking on me". Other members are interested in firearms and associated paraphernalia and one must understand weapons of all types are harmless, it is the application of the weapon which can be harmful. They are selling for a silly sum - that makes sense because the diameter of the hand wheels and the diameter of the tail stock lead screw makes it a little difficult
What makes sense ??????? Robert Butler What it is ysed for
Ian, thanks for clarifying that, it was the justification I was struggling with, "because the diameter of the hand wheels and the diameter of the tailstock leadscrew makes it a little difficult", this didn't seem to have any relevance. On the ML7 the hand wheel and trust plate is removed and the device fitted in place. This differs from the S7 where the tailstock barrel is replaced and the attachment fitted with an integral bearing. Robert Butler |

Thread: Micro-lathe suitable as multi-function system for small workshop? |

Jan, you could mount a small lathe and milling machine on a suitably constructed cabinet with castors which could aid shortage of space. If drawers and shelves are incorporated this helps provide storage for tooling. Robert Butler |
