On a serious note I can endorse Mitsubishi VFDs, the one in the link above includes E8 washing machine software ? ​​​​​​​

There wasn’t much of interest for me for a few years before they went under. Useful if you needed a component  same day. It has not been difficult to live without the local store.

I too have a 3M 9100 helmet, excellent piece of kit. One of the best health and safety posters I have seen said look after your eyes, that is your last pair.

I bought a 6” cbn wheel from “The Toolpost” 18 months ago. Delivery took a while and it was not cheap but I am happy with it. The balance is excellent and it is partly coated on the flat side of the wheel.

Hello Mick, for the machined surfaces I would cover with a rag or kitchen roll then apply paraffin or white spirit. Cover with cling film to slow evaporation and leave for 24 hrs, hopefully that will soften the grease. For painted surfaces the usual do a test piece first. Regards Michael.

If I need to get a hex head tight without rounding it I use a socket or a ring spanner.

If there was a lack of oxygen in your shed I think you would be physically aware. Sounds to me like a nearly empty gas canister. Regards, Michael.

I bought a cbn wheel for my grinder. Expensive but no abrasive dust, no doubt there will be some hard dust from the item being ground but compared to a grinding wheel much cleaner in operation.

I have a number of unsplit Ruko metric dies that form a high quality thread on stainless steel. A split die partly relies on pointed grub screws for rigidity. For starting a thread, taps have a taper built in.

Relax, It's a Fleabay purchase, looks okay in the photograph but it won't work.

As Marischal said, Vaseline or silicone grease should help. In the ancient past I was the proud owner of a Sinclair ZX80. It had a memory module the plugged in the back that made it crash for fun because of the unreliability of the connections. The official fix was a thin film of vaseline, I was not impressed by the suggestion but it worked.

Alan, I have yet to come across a vfd that does not protect itself if the deceleration is too fast. A controlled ramp down is another useful feature of vfd control rather than a motor free wheeling to a standstill. I usually set mine to stop as quickly as possible without tripping the drive.

As far as minimum frequency is concerned I would not hesitate to run at 10 hz, I doubt you will find the motor gets warm unless on a machine that runs continuously for long periods, certainly not the case for my lathe. Michael

The video is of a NG120 which runs in the opposite direction to the 782xl, Femi claim it cuts 60% faster. It may be faster but you lose the option of vertical operation with a table.

Hello Chris,

I have never regretted spending probably more than I should for a quality piece of kit. On the other hand buying cheap and buying twice has been a bitter experience on more than one occasion in the past. I would explain but I am trying to forget those mistakes. Michael.
