After 15 years the drive belt on my Chester DB10g lathe has bit the dust. Has anyone found a replacement belt - it seems from the web a rare beast. Best I could find was that it was a module 1.5 which gives it a 4.7 mm spacing. These I have not found on searches. Peter |

Use rollers instead of wheels or even lots of ball bearings on a rod.

Thread: Delivery Problems |

We had a Hermes delivery that 'was delivered to a safe place', so far we haven't found the place but we did get the replacement! Or Parcel Post where we got the note through the door, the driver must have had running shoes on as no sight of him when I got to the door!

Ran the upgrade this afternoon all appeared to go well but for one thing - MS Network Monitor now no longer works. Said to try version 3.4 but that refuses to load! Apart from that loss seen no real difference yet - apart from log on screen has changed.

The 'Cloud' is all well and good until as last week our router said it had a good connection but no response from the web - so what do you do then. I have tried to find out what happens when you have software that runs from the 'Cloud' and you loose connection, anyone know! peter

The tabs on NiCad batteries are spot welded using a capacitive discharge welder. Do a search on google! Plenty of info for self build

Best thing I have found to clean aluminium is boiled rhubarb is also fairly gentle on the ally. Rhubarb contains some oxalic acid, even more in the leaves, use warm and it will clean off the oxide layer! wash well afterwards.

I think I would be very wary about attaching anything to the camera lens as the lens motor may be damaged by the extra load imposed. Cannot you make the filter holder cover the entire lens allowing for the full movement of the lens.

When I first started work, I was a spectrographer and was asked to identify a lump of white very light metal, luckily I shaved a few slivers off it and arced them - magnesium!! So glad I didn't just run an arc on it!! What a firework display that would have made!

Your biggest problem is any air bricks and then the waste water system. If the surge is of ant depth it will come up the loo. To my mind you will need a motorised water pump to remove any water that does get in. The next problem is how quickly the water level will go down. Personally I would just hope the next surge is 100 year's away.

Sometimes I just wonder what people are expecting in a magzine. Are they expecting to learn something new and exciting every time, they will always then be disapointed. For myself I read the magazine always with a'pinch of salt' in that I may not realy be interested in the subject but subconsciously will have stored snippets of information which hopefully will surface when needed. As to CNC, I like to read items on this subject as I am still learning about the subject, I have even CNC'd my small mill, not that I have done all that much with it. I still have to conquor the art of material holding( good subject fot the mag) as I find that my knowledge is lacking in this respect as the amount of trashed jobs will testify. Perhaps its time for the detractors to offer their services and actuall y produce some articles they would like. Peter |

Just been in the garage and noticed my pack of 'Sil-Phos' brazing rod, ok for car or gap filling jobs not sure it is of any use for boilers etc but the bees knees on the body work! peter |
08/07/2013 11:44:40 |
The use of brazing rod on boilers is a no no as it will dezincify over time and could blow up! I suppose you could use a bronze brazing rod! Peter |
