Thread: cutting stainless steel sheet |
21/01/2023 16:16:34 |
Note:- There are special cutting discs for Stainless. Use one of the thin discs, they limit the heat affected zone and when you get the angle of the wheel about right (Ie: not at 90 degrees to the plate) the discs last quite a long time. |
Thread: Slow setting Epoxy |

If you want a metallic mix, scrape some of the dust from the guards off of your grinder and mix it into the epoxy. Also agree that the epoxy fast cure doesn't have the strength of the 'original' slow cure. Bob |

Yes, only the case and its battery remained in place. |

I was recently given a grand kids IPhone 11 as the charging socket was broken. Also an iPhone 11 is SO OLD Grandpa. I had a quick look on the internet of how to replace the socket ie: total strip down to remove the socket and its flexible circuit track and to buy one it was 10euro delivered didn't seem too much of a punt if it all went wrong. A few days later, the goods arrived which included the 4point screwdriver, the 3 point screwdriver, the "Torx" driver, 2 plastic spudgers, 2 pry bars . Not bad for 10 euros I thought. To remove the screen, you heat the whole unit up carefully with a hair dryer to melt the waterproofing glue, then use the spudgers to pry the screen off. The spudgers were of no use, and resorted to using a small penknife before I could get the spudgers in to complete removal of the screen. Disassembly went well, placing the various screws and components not a sheet of A4 and itemising them where possible. The screwdrivers were essential and although not best quality, did the job. The old socket and foil circuit was removed and replaced with the new one. Following a web tutorial, re-assembly went well even if it took 3 hours and once completed, there was only one small clip that was remaining on the sheet of A4. I reckoned that it was not essential and could be considered redundant. I powered up the device - no beeps, no screen. I tried all the resets, hard resets and tricks to no avail. So the phone now sits in the box of come in handy stuff - that never comes in handy, but for only 10 €..... But to get back to the subject, these spudgers were too soft and not a lot of good. Am I missing the point ? It's a thread milling tap. Although the tap has a pitch, there is no lead which you would find on a conventional tap. I assume the description of 90 degrees indicates 4 flutes ??

check tool centre height Check saddle / top slide gibs are nipped up so that tool height doesn't change when cutting load comes on. Check cutting speed for tool / work material. Use correct lubricant if using HSS tooling.

Thread: super heated (or not) |
11/01/2023 17:15:32 |
Surely there must be a problem in the regulator not delivering air to the super heater or the connection between the air supply and boiler Once you have sufficient pressure in the boiler, the wheels will turn once that pressure reaches them. The only thing in the way is the regulator or tubing between regulator exit and the superheater. As stated before, air does not expand as much as steam and consequently you will use more than you expect. Bob |

Thread: French model Engineers |
07/01/2023 15:08:57 |
My goodness, the SW of France is filling up with MEs. Hello Jerry, we are in dept 46 - just next door! MEs are about as common as chicken teeth around here, I have just about finished a 5" gauge SPEEDY loco and there are few if any public tracks in dept 46. and very few private ones. The Petit Train de Grenade is a 71/4 inch track They are in the process of building a new track and moving to a new location and need help building it. Can't help you with other club names local to you. Bob |
Thread: Center of Gravity Location |

I can't comment on your calculations, but I think you have found the centre of balance. The CG could be anywhere between the rail head(unlikely) or the top of the funnel and at the point you have calculated. Again, is the Loco boiler empty or full ? or perhaps I am on the wrong tracks ! Bob |
