16/02/2023 15:21:18

Oh and Martin j many thanks for that suggestion on how to make the bush..i was going to use your idea if my part didn’t work however it seems fine so far

16/02/2023 15:17:51

Vic

i can see that the Axminster one just has a knob…do you know how that works? Is it on a hinged spindle to adjust tracking? The sorby one whilst needing the tommy bars once set I’ve never adjusted it in all the time I’ve had it perhaps 7 years or so with many hundreds of belt swaps and new belts.

this is my finished machine for use in my metal working room…the genuine one is by my woodturning lathes

The original shaft is from a Robert sorby proedge

its a very elegant way of tracking the belt

Thread: Newman 3ph motor help
15/02/2023 18:27:16

I’d just buy a new(sh) motor 4 pole of at least 375watt (1/2 hp) or bigger if you can squeeze a bigger one in

make sure its dual voltage

i bought 2 last week on eBay for £40 each both new and unused

Thread: How do i machine this ( on the wonk)
15/02/2023 14:59:00

Well i bodged it

turned the lot as one screw cut the threads and then cut with the bandsaw (1mm kerf) about 3/4 the way through the 35mm boss then squeezed it in the vice and welded it up

measures as well as my original

Its for a belt grinder the tracking adjustment for the pulley

15/02/2023 12:58:19

Brilliant thanks to martin and robert

15/02/2023 12:30:37

Well its not eccentric its bent

15/02/2023 12:25:02

I have this part that i want to replicate

b6ff37d5-267a-40e8-aabd-b9bcd5a7f1cd.jpeg

The shaft to the left is concentric to the middle boss but the boss is 18mm on one side and 19.3mm on the other making the shaft to the right at a shallow angle.

how can i do this?

Thread: How close have you got to a Darwin Award?
12/02/2023 07:20:19

When about 13 my friend and i were told about sodium chlorate and sugar by an older boy . We emptied our parents shed and kitchen of the ingredients and mixed them into an innocuous pile and lit it with a match (at arms length luckily ) the resultant explosion just put a big smile on our faces and we spent the whole summer making rockets etc.

our mothers couldn’t understand where all the sugar was going and after the sodium chlorate was all gone so was our pocket money buying new supplies from garden shops.

Thread: Using a Morse taper reamer - advice please
27/01/2023 15:09:18

When i make them i just drill to the small end diameter and then slowly let the reamer cut the whole taper.

lots of cutting oil and very small increments of travel < 1mm the flutes fill rapidly and withdraw and a toothbrush to clean the flutes rinse and repeat

Thread: Drill Press Improvemnts
22/01/2023 13:34:23

The table does hold as it would with a handle but when i want to lock the table i have a hydraulic cylinder and pump (hand op) that does the job.

it may seem overkill but this is a drill in a very tightly packed workshop so its not easy reaching round for a handle and the locking screw

20/01/2023 18:21:42

Andrew

thats just a 24v dc parvalux geared motor driving the shaft which lifts and drops the table and a switch mounted on a flying lead so that can mount on the table where i can get to it
