Thread: Metal bluing parts of the lathe |
22/12/2016 14:04:38 |
I have used the cold blacking from www.black-it.co.uk on the bare steel parts of my Boxfords and my tool grinder (ball handles and the like) and while not as durable as hot blacking it is still quite durable. Did mine a couple of years ago and only now are some handles showing signs of the black fading. And it certainly helps to stop rust forming. Surfaces must be TOTALLY degreased for the blacking to work. Regards Barry |

Hi Vasco, I was going to ask you the same question. Places like Leroy Merlin do as few bits of steel, brass and ali rod etc but of dubious quality. I have never manages to find a steel or non ferrous dealer in the Algarve. So I buy what i need from the various UK model engineer suppliers. A Portuguese friend has suggested that there may be suppliers in the north of Portugal where there is some engineering industry and he is going to see if he can get some details. Regards Barry |

Thread: WHERE ARE THE SHAPER USERS ? |
26/09/2016 11:37:10 |
I wouldn't be without my Boxford 8inch shaper. Will have to be prised from my cold dead hands. I have used it a lot for cutting dovetails, and cutting internal keyway slots in gears etc, and the finish on flat surfaces is can look almost as if it has been ground. |
Thread: Who sells horizontal arbor milling cutters? |

Try gandmtools - bought lots of various sizes from them for my Senior horizontal mill. |

Made the drain cocks and water gauge cocks for my Atkinson lorry using JasonB's method and was well pleased with how well they works - go for it. |

Are these the sort of thing the OP had seen. Bought a load years ago (£5) at a motorcycle auto jumble. Various Whitworth form threads. |

Still used a lot in computer rooms. Earthed down to a separate clean earth for computer equipment use only - stops unautherised equipment being plugged in. |

John, Yes,the £15k was for the TS version. When I bought my ME10 it cost I think £1300 or so, but the add on even more. Got all the receipts somewhere for the Cabinet base, Vertical slide, taper turning attachment, metric change wheels, collets etc etc. nearly £3000. Thread: Line Boring (demo) |

I agree with Paul - far to longwinded video's. I have used multicore solder coiled round the boring bar. One or two layers depending on space available - works just fine. |
Thread: 6 BA hexagon headed screws |

Geoff, Hope you get what you need from the supplier you mentioned. If not, another possibility is Clerkenwell Screws. They used to stock lots of BA bolts.

One method I have used with success is a hollow drill. Take a piece of silver steel of suitable size drill it out to the thread clearance size and file / machine a couple of cutting edges. (Like a hollow end mill really) Harden and temper the end. Then carefully and slowly drill out around the broken tap. Then plug hole as above. Cant remember if I read about the method here or some other forum
