Yes, they are all the same. Well, actually they are getting worse. Quite often see the same models with absolutely no progress since the last time they were exhibited. Fewer trade stands. Can't possibly agree with a golfing dress code. Since the demise of Sandown they are all too far away or awkward for me to get to. Did try Brooklands but that was all over the place. Might, just might, try that one again so......

I have the ultimate solution. I don't go anymore!

You could always make a wooden clock. Just so happens I have some plans that are in need of a new home.....

My daughter always buys me a Star Wars Lego something-or-other for Christmas to keep me quiet while she plays Scrabble with mum.

None of my machines are bolted down.

Instead they are mounted on antivibration machine mounts.

Boxford in their instructions for installation give effectively three ways to go.

The Centec 2A is on one of their monster cabinets and is very stable despite or because of its weight.

My Startrite pillar drill I admit is a little unstable and probably should at least have some outriggers added to the base to extend it. I haven't fixed it down as I haven't actually fixed its position in the workshop. Not danced with it, though!

As AW2, it's easier to rearrange ones workshop if needed if they are free standing but mine are lightish machines. You wouldn't want to do it with yer Colchesters and Bridgies...

Cabinet mounted Boxfords can be bolted or mounted on machine mounts as shown in Know your Lathe. The pages either side of this one are in my album for reference.

Mine is also on machine feet.

I would be very careful rocking it to get feet in. They are rather top heavy so fall over easily! Either borrow an engine crane if you have room or pry it up onto timbers front to back to get your clearance.

No current experience but probably a Tamiya is a safe bet. Kits you can build up together but don't forget to budget for paint, radio gear, batteries and a (fast) charger.

I built a Schumacher for my daughter (yes, really, it wasn't for me, honest!) 20odd years ago but they look a bit expensive these days.

A portrait is not a portrait if in landscape orientation!

A picture of a tall building? Mountain? My pictures of Polly might show you what I mean.

It's all to do with artistic interpretation but I do accept that a lot of engineering folk have no artistic inclination.

I did a grinding course with SMEE and they INSIST on B rated eye protection.

Most safety glasses are F rated and are not suitable for grinding.

As an aside I thought that full face visors were mostly B rated or above.

It is nice to have passed on tools. When I retired from a large communications company one of my colleagues donated his toolbox from his previous employment as a toolmaker.

All sorts of 'goodies' including his apprentice pieces.

I'm not sure I would have done that. A generous gesture.

Of course he initialed everything but needless to say his aren't mine.....

If it's the one on that well known site it is now at £300. Still a bit stiff for a Mk2 in my opinion. It also has a very nasty paint job!

Note also that there is no pully or belt tensioner shown.

John has shown a 2A of course. The 2 has some kind of ratcheting system AFAIK. It's the 2B that has the screw under the knee.

I recently bought a cross slide screw and nut from him.

Excellent quality and well priced.

I wouldn't bother with No 22 unless it has been revised.

My 1994 published copy is hopelessly out of date.
