as most news are nickel plated a lot of glues don't grip too well what I have done in the past is to bore a close fitting recess and fit the magnet then distort the edges slightly as the mags have slightly rounded edges. |

Thread: Boring - best practice? |
20/08/2023 09:46:56 |
.Not trying to upset anyone but I find the heavy cuts and feed rates for carbide not always true, I use ccmt060204 and dcmt and rcmt inserts both standard and polished and find fine cuts just as successful as deep ones. On the question of boring in the mill it’s possible to rotate the boring bar in the head where on the lathe the boring bar has a flat on it giving positive location could that be part of the problem? |

One of the big problems with a lot of commercial coax indicators is the amount of headroom required so if you have a small mill they can be impossible to use which is why I when the route of making my own. A nice satisfying project which gets used again and again. |

I am quite surprised when people say cut aluminium dry with hss or carbide I have found that you can can get cold welding on the tip of the tool and the finish is not as good as when a splash of WD/Para is applied and still not as good as when using PCD tips there Bl***y marvellous , its a shame to touch your work afterwards! |
Thread: Test Boiler - electric |

Speedy builder, I am going the same route but with 500watts and using a lot of ideas from DAG Browns injector book. It really needs a method of switching when up to WP to make the thing useful so injector tests can be done without having to keep an eye on that part of the job. |

If you used delrin/acetal you could glue the blank onto a steel mandrel then machine your piece and part off so you then have a heavier playing piece. |
