by the time you have done all the searching and paying and waiting they would be fitted and forgotten about oh and don't forget about the satisfaction value!. |

Thread: shaper cross feed |
13/01/2022 18:42:51 |
I must admit that my clapperbox is vertical unless being used in the vertical mode as recommended in Shaper Operations. |

Rob can you explain your reasoning behind this because if using a round nosed tool in both directions it means you have to change the auto feed adjuster to the opposite side of the actuating shaft every time you change direction. On the other hand if it was opposite to our thinking the backstroke would not be dragging on uncut material. Just a thought! |
Thread: Steam raising blower |
10/01/2022 22:15:34 |
Performance of your fans can vary a huge amount , motor revs / fan efficiency / fan diameter. My blower uses a fan from a Fokker airoplane fan oven at about 4 plus inches and is extremely efficient. |
Thread: Boring bars |

Yes I would think they are forged but what I found interesting was the clamp arrangement, looks much stronger than the usual grubscrew on most offerings and not too difficult to make. Also infinite angling of the tool bit Edited By bernard towers on 09/01/2022 23:33:23 |
Thread: drill sharpening jig or dedicated tool |

I would imagine that if the drill bit was projecting the same amount in each jig you would be able to get 4 facets, |

Thread: Boring bars |

I have just noticed some nice boring bars on our favourite auction site. They are Armstrong pattern and I personally have never seen them before. Looking carefully it would seem to be an interesting concept especially as a toolmaking project. |

I personally think the Henley thing is a bit of a myth as my 10v had 3 cylinder Castings replaced and my Beam 2 flywheels and the one that’s on it now is not perfect. Yes and they were both Henley kits. |
Thread: Cast brass |
05/01/2022 16:10:59 |
When I did my turret clock I cast my own wheels and added a small amount of lead as in cz120 and it machined beautifully and you have the satisfaction of doing it yourself. |

Thread: Headstock - Performance of the gears |
02/01/2022 20:45:50 |
If it’s a S7 it’s not gear play but the locking mechanism for direct drive. Mine has some play, the same amount for the last 30years but makes no noise. Just a thought if it had no room in it it would be difficult to operate |

Thread: Help identifying brazing/soldering rods |
29/12/2021 22:50:02 |
As they have Saffire written on them they should be box as it is one of their trade names and the sb is for silicon bronze for materials other than cast iron and then the rods would be marked mb for manganese bronze. Edited By bernard towers on 29/12/2021 22:51:03 |

Plus one for that Tug, one of the best mods you can do jog and speed control is second to none. You can find ideal turning speeds at the twist of a knob. Don’t know if anyone else uses the facility to preselect the direction when the lathe is running, I use it when winding taps out , all you do is preselect the opposite direction and as you are rotating slowly you press stop and then start and it reverses. |

Why is it when you volunteer at museums and the like you always seem to be looking for tools used by someone else and not put back where they belong. I wonder what the percentage of time wasted in this way is?? |
