With open source - there is a caveat - you are free to use it - copy it and modify it - but if you modify it you must also make your modifications available. This would also sound a good idea!

The copper mallet wouldn't matter so much, but to get the job done you need the correct size of spanner!

Thread: MEW180 CAD Article

I think, as it is food for thought that it being published was fine. I read most of the articles in ME and MEW for ideas.

David
Nice to see this is continuing - I was starting to fear that because of the issues raised it was going to be quietly dropped - glad it hasn't been - was considering this as a project. However, will waite until I have it all before starting - at the moment am just doing it in my head and making mental corrections

Thread: New technology in Model Engineers Workshop

But would most of todays innovation fall into this catagory?
Plus I do seem to recall an article suggesting the use of mains leads to plug into batteries for portable tools!
As often is quoted is it not that the editor can only print the articles that he is presented with. More likely the contributors are not that forward thinking. There are a number of contributors to this forum who believe that if they are not controlling their machine tools themselves then there is no skill in it. Perhap this country has lost its innovators, hence we are going down hill!
Thread: This months MEW are 3 CNC features two too many

I also don't envy David his job. However, what does he do if he doesn't get the articles to publish, or he does but the quality is not there. I can understand why David hasn't commented. i must admit I also spent more time reading the free addission then the magazine.
However, I still go to smiths and buy both mags even if the content is to my liking or not - I may use it in the future.

One possibility is a CNC Special.

Don't think it is the camera angle - as they don't form a straight line with the axle bearing.

Thread: Countryman's Steam - Chain drilling
12/04/2011 07:58:53
After the first article, I saw this as a possible future project. I don't want to appear critical as the author has had a lot of stick already, and others seeing this will be dissuaded from producing future articles. However, I read the section on tools and thought that the project was going to involve only hand tools as this is all that is mentioned, I think this section would have been better if seperated from the main article by putting it in a seperate frame). I too am confused by the lack of dimentions, hopefully this will be resolved later. Plus for a beginner, more details are needed in areas. I do get the impression that information for beginers has been added to what was already written. Potentially this is a brilliant project!
I like trhe idea suggested by others of submitting articles to (volunteer) proof readers to reduce errors / confusion!

Thread: What is the truth about "Tich"and "Minnie"?
15/12/2010 16:28:22
Thanks for advice re Minnie book - I have most of the digital volumes that where on this site - will either try to get the rest or look for second hand book. I have since remembered where I saw a book for sale - I am sure that it was new - will see if it is still there.
Cheers

A little bit off topic but not by much - I know the plans are available for Minnie - I thought the book was as well - but google only came up with secondhand ones - some for a lot of money. Does anyone know if it still is - I might have assumed thats why the back issues were removed from the site as relatives wan'ted money from book sales. Does anyone know if it is still available?
I ask because it is my retirement project and that is getting closer!
