All rules come from somewhere, knowing from whence they come should surely not invalidate them.
Peter. While we're in pedantic mode, shouldn't that be knowing whence they come? My understanding is that whence means from where. Geo. Hi Geo, I was not trying to be pedantic only stating my opinion, also i have no idea as to the correctness of my use of "from whence". Peter. |

Hi Neil, As editor I would expect you would correct (remove) errors, not add them. Peter. Exactly, is it not an error to apply the rules of Latin to English? Neil Hi Neil, All rules come from somewhere, knowing from whence they come should surely not invalidate them. Peter. |

Irony is I'm using my tiny 1/4" router rather than struggling with the 1/2" beast! I put it down while still running and it fell over and nearly got my shoe - oops!

What I don't understand is what happens to the balloon (aircraft?) once it has dropped off its cargo. Does it fly off uncontrolledly up to the edge of space or do you have to swap the cargo for a load of dead weight? Seems a bit of a logistical issue to me. Obviously there must be a lot of cost involved in filling that thing up with helium and you can't go jettisoning a lot of it when you dump the cargo. Perhaps I'm missing something obvious? If they use water as a disposable ballast, that's neither free nor necessarily convenient.
Hi Muzzer, My experience of airships is 0, however my understanding is that when they are being loaded/unloaded they are tethered (anchored). Also (my understanding) buoyancy is controlled by compressing/decompressing the flotation gas. Peter. |

Thread: Ideal Beginners Lathe? |
17/07/2016 20:18:29 |
Hi Philip, I have a combination lathe/mill and although I would love to have the space and finances to have two dedicated machines I manage to get cope things done within the limitations of the lathe/mill. I have never used a vertical slide on a lathe however I feel the mill on a combination machine would be slightly better. If you can only acquire one machine I would say go for it. Hope this helps. Peter. |
