Thread: Mot grace
29/03/2020 17:36:13

As I said I had mine MOT'd and serviced on Thursday, it needed an anti roll bar link which my garage had no difficulty getting from local suppliers, based on other makes of car mine is not that popular, my nearest main Dealer is twenty five miles away and had already had a letter saying they were shutting down.

Got mine MOT'd and serviced last Thursday, we live in the sticks so rely on our own transport, we didnt have much of a bus service in normal times, now I fear it will vanish.

I have what I call a manual fork lift capable of lifting 300lbs, it was in need of three new castors, it has five wheels, two load bearing wheels and two casters on a frame that can be retracted to get the lifting pallet under the load and once lifted the casters can be pushed forward to help manouver the load around and when not lifting there is a swivel castor at the rear to help move it. I bought the new castors some time last year and yesterday finally managed to change them, the rear caster didnt have a threaded shaft to bolt in place, it was a plain shaft a good fit in a tube so I had to weld the nut for the new one in place on the tube, now its done the lifter gets around easily.

May I also suggest this museum which I visite recently http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/ the period it covers is post war with loads of jet types, both museums are mobility capable.

Just enjoyed 30 mins chat with my Daughter, Son in Law and Grandson who is one today, we had a video call with an APP called Houseparty, wife amazed what we can now do, not bad for a Technophobe smiley now off out side to clean a drain that I unblocked last night then back in the garage for some more tinkering.

I have a good friend who thinks this current problem is nothing to do with him, he and his wife have just been to Dorset last week for a break, yesterday they spent the day with his Daughter and her family and couldnt understand why our Daughter and her family and us have decided to stay apart.

Still no explanation why everything is invented by men though.

Martin.

Thats obvious the males never gave the females the chance and to a degree still dont today, I for one have no issues with ladies doing "our" jobs and better at it if that lady model engineer is anything to go by, they have naturally one thing we have to learn and thats patience, just ask your wives, girl friends etc.

Phyllosan Fortifies the Over-Forties

Bill

At a younger age I used to hump stationary engines about my yard but as I got older I used sack barrows and the point of balance to move stuff around and now a mate comes around to help me struggle, does this stuff do anything for mid sixties gents smiley

Today at our farm shop I slid a 25kg bag of potatoes of a 5 feet stack, once it was clear of the stack it took me to the ground, its a long time since I lifted that weight and it was a shock when I couldnt hold it.

My biggest fear is that when I'm gone she sells it for what I said I bought it for... wink

I've told my beloved that if I pop off before her and one day I'm looking down on her I see a skip I will haunt her for the rest of her days laugh

Our attached next door neigbours have never been on our friendly list, mainly because of their young elephants, sorry sons, we pass the time of day but thats about it until yesterday when i felt old and humbled after reading a note pushed through the letter box from the mother offering to do shopping and anything else we needed, sometimes the best comes out when you least expect it.

I used a worktop I was given by a neigbour, I covered that with a sheet of steel to protect from severe damage.

I've two I bought a few weeks ago after hearing them read as Book of the Week on Radio Four - but missing odd episodes. They are:

The Second Sleep - far-future dystopiae are everywhere but Robert Harris' novel is an unusual take on the theme .

Firstly, this is about a young priest being sent to investigate the death of a fellow clergyman in the fictitious but credibly-named village of Axford, evidently near the real Exeter in which some of the events occur.

The Second sleep was the afternoon play on radio four for several days and was a good listen.

I've got Stationary Engine magazine, Olg Glory, Aeroplane, Flypast, MEW, 1950's ME, 1950's Aeroplane recognition, two books on Clock repair and maintenance and one on French Polishing for beginners, Friends of GCR Main Line magazine and in the back ground a couple of biographies.

I enjoy reading and cant just read one book/magazine at a time I have to dip into a good selection unless I have a bath and then I will read a magazine cover to cover in one soaking.
