Jim. My exhaust has no sound deadening just the expansion box, sounds not to bad noise wise. MichaelR

Jim. You can do your own thing with the exhaust on the Wyvern, my version shown in the picture, I used a Hall sensor for my ignition by Minimag Link , however you can use points and coil ignition. I run my Wyvern on petrol, you can use propane but I am not up on that method but it would be worth looking into. Hope this helps. MichaelR.

Have you got a little bit of float on your slide valve buckle ? which will allow the steam/air pressure to seal the valve to the port face. MichaelR.

David, You have made a nice job on your boiler very neat, just one point you really need your pressure gauge on a "U" Bend syphon to form a water slug which protects the gauge from damage by direct steam pressure, although you may know this already. MichaelR

Henry, I used ball bearings for my traction engine governor, I softened the balls by heating them to red heat then drilled the balls for the governor arms and fixed the balls to the arms with Loctite. MichaelR Edited By MichaelR on 11/05/2020 12:00:00

On the bottom left hand side of the cover there is a socket head screw you can't see the screw with the guard closed, remove the screw and the cover hinges upwards from the front.

Hi Micheal Do you mean the tips of the lever should be deep inside the poppets and not slightly balanced on top? should I drill down into the poppets so they sit inside. Thanks for the help Yes the tips should be drilled into the poppets so that they are slightly below the valve seating (As in the drawing above) if they are just balanced on top the lever can flop about. To work correctly the ends of the pivot pins on the lever arm should locate slightly below the valve seating, and the valve seating face not too wide, MichaelR Edited By MichaelR on 10/04/2020 19:28:26

I used Black Friar High Heat Resistant Matt Black paint on my D&NY smoke box which is good for 600C, the paint has stood up well over many years of steaming. MichaelR.

Are your bearings the spilt type ? if so you will be able to take up that very slight play, another area that can cause a knock is the cross head pin bearing, my D&NY engine always had a knock in that area until I fitted a lubricator as photo.
Thread: MYFORD 254 LATHE TECHNICAL QUESTION

Just had a close look, mine has a slot right across which could be used to tighten it up perhaps? Page 22 of the manual refers, but nothing about adjusting it. Does your manual mention it Michael?
Duncan, My manual doesn't mention anything about feed shaft clutch adjustment, The tool list for the lathe includes a Slotted nut spanner (Feed shaft adjusting) which came with my lathe. MikeR

On my 254s the clutch is at the same position as on Duncan's lathe, but mine is adjustable it has a "C" spanner that has two lugs that engage in slots in the clutch and was supplied with the lathe when I bought the Lathe from Myfords. MikeR

I got side tracked to that site when taxing my car, then realising after signing up that it was nothing to do with the DVLA, I returned to the site and found that I could cancel if done within a certain time which I did. (You don't get the 50P back) but you get conformation that your account is closed.
