368 forum posts 122 photos	Hello, What is the best Black paint to use on a firebox and smokebox, I have a 2" Durham that is slowly progressing, and I want to paint the smokebox before attaching to the boiler. Other VHT blacks i've used, just seem to go grey or loose their shine, which is not that I want. I would prefer not to use two pack paint. So any other suggestions are welcome. Cheers Jon

2536 forum posts 24 photos	Wipe over with steam oil. Normal gloss engine lacquer that Halfords sell is only good for 300C

528 forum posts 79 photos	I used Black Friar High Heat Resistant Matt Black paint on my D&NY smoke box which is good for 600C, the paint has stood up well over many years of steaming. MichaelR.
