I wonder has anyone either made or got some drawings of the Eureka gear cutter relieving attachment that Charles Lessie made for relieving hobs which is on youtube. It seems to work very well all i need is how much it has been extended from the original Ivan Law/Prof Chaddock version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ8kyC_bpHs link to the attachment being used. |
Thread: Where to buy ground stainless round. |
13/05/2012 10:26:56 |
Jonathan, I see that AJ Reeves still stock Stainless steel in imperial size i dont know if they sell metric, might be worth a try. If you need to heat treat for the engine part as Jason said it may pay to use one of the usall steels the old EN8 or EN32 if you want to case harden or EN24 or EN32 if you need to through harden I am not sure if the stainless steels will either case or through harden i use 440C or 17-4PH which will harden without to much difficulty. |

Thread: availability of Abrafile saw blades |
12/05/2012 13:29:08 |
Thank you all for the reply. I was today using the abrafile to cut out a electric panel on one of our test rigs at work,I could of cut a hole big enough and then split a band saw blade and re--welded it, i could also of used the flypress and cut out as near as possible to the shape that i required. I have pad saws and peicing saws of differing shapes and sizes but i find that the abrafile because you can change direction because it has cutting teeth all around the saw is most usefull. I have considered buying a fret saw but for the amount of times i think i would use it outways the expence, but as they say if you had it i would proberly use it more. One of the people from work who makes clocks says his dad uses a simiar saw in france sold under a nother name, as with my father he used to refer to them as Davis files by the old inventor until another firm started to make them calling them Abrafile. |

does anyone know where you can buy or does anyone have Abrafile saw blades they would like to sell. I can not find any either in catalogues or off the net except the tunsten carbide type that you use for tiles. |

Thread: spline shaft cutters |
14/04/2012 20:47:05 |
Hi to all, Does anyone know where you can get hold of spline cutter simalar to involute type cutter as i need one to make a batch of replacement leadscrews on a M300 Harrison lathe cross slide leadscrew. I could grind up a single point tool and flycut them but a multitooth cutter would makes things easier. Do anyone know of a secondhand tool dealer who might have them in stock at a reasonable price. Alternatively i could make a multitooth cutter and form relieve it and heat treat afterwards. Regards John Burridge |

Thread: Collets for Raglan lathe |
13/02/2011 09:44:19 |
Hi Ian, The normal collets that Raglan used for their lathes used to be of the 4C type. If you would like to find some suitable collets for your lathe you might try the Raglan Machine Tool web site which is http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/RaglanMachineTools Quite a few of the members have additional spare and there other information for other accessories and spares both new and used. Regards John Burridge |
