Good God man it's only a shaper. Just trim it up with an angle grinder and flap wheel and use it.
Thread: Does anybody know about VEVOR lathes ?
11/07/2017 17:26:20

Seeing as the OP has bought the cheapest of the cheap many times over with nothing but problems it's hardly surprising that he's latched onto an 'assembler' of machine parts from spurious Chinese trading companies in an effort to save a further 5 cents.

The annoying part is after buying all this crap he then traps others into helping him in his quest for a Monach 10EE for 29 AUD

Thread: Homeworkshop site problem
10/07/2017 21:51:06

Problem is the advert site is running on very old software and may things have moved on. We have gone from XP thru to Windows 10 and many forms of browser.

The site clearly needs an upgrade from the old Joomla software it runs on.

It costs a fair bit to run the site as regards bandwidth etc but it's not about the money.

What it is about is the time to do a complete re-write on more modern software and then field all the posts that say they don't like the changes.

We have run the site now since 2005 and if truth is known it's really time to hand over to a new set of hands.

Neither small son or myself can spare the time for a re-write on something that never even clears expenses and as you can see from the replies above some can access it no problems and others can't so does the problem lie at our end or the users end ?

Thread: Lots of Bearing Races to dispose of?
07/07/2017 09:07:38

My thoughts exactly Nick.

Over the last 30 years I have managed to fill a 4 drawing filing cabinet with surplus bearing in the hope they come in useful one day.

TBH it never happened, all that did happen is I'd spend 1/2 hour at commercial rates looking for a two pound bearing.

About a year ago I loaded the whole lot up into the truck and weighed the lot in.

Result, more space, less clutter and no wasted time looking for something I'd never find.

Thread: Alibre Design Returns
05/07/2017 14:15:37
That wasn't the way it was sold to me.
I wanted a copy on my desktop and my laptop and a copy on my sons desktop who lives miles away from me, so 3 seats for 3 employees if needed. Since an upgrade 2? years ago my laptop can never get signed on even though neither my son or myself are running it on any other machines
05/07/2017 13:05:52
I gave up with Alibre due to licensing issues.
I own "the right" to use 3 seatd but struggle to get all 3 to work. Messages like saying other licenced etc

Impossible to get any help as my support has run out

I bought into the pro version, training videos as well when I was told that the PE version I had would not run on W7

Information I now know to be incorrect so forgive me but after spending ?1800 I don't have a lot to show for it.
I personally find Fusion 360 far easier to use and the fact I get a 3D CAM package is a complete extra not available with Alibre or any of the others

In the 80s?

That had to be the 4 and 6 cylinder York engine.

Bankrupted more firms than the V4 petrol.
Still not much different today, the 2.2 engine is still known in the trade as a grenade engine

Let me think... theres Nick G for his wicked humour, Neil Wyatt for restoring order, JS for p*****g off people, Jason B for his tech.contributions, and a lot more others for their specialization on various subjects...inc.bee keeping, sheep and goat and other stuff...all in the queue before mesmiley

Sure it's the motor and not the inverter?

Inverters have a parameter you can play with to alter the noise.

What inverter make and model?

Nice one Neil unless someone wants to write you an article about making a soapbox with a bit of metal content.

Just been sorting out and found a brand new unread copy, still in its shipping carton from the States.

Often called the bible by many I have put it on the home workshop advert site for £60 post paid to any UK address.

Still available as a private printing in the US at over $100 with shipping.

I'll be selling many, many more quite rare books off over the next few months.

Didn't sell the silver steel. wink

Bonus from this is piece of mind from a one stop selling point of view, they don't pick over it, they take everything and if at a later date when the new workshop is built at the new house I can go back and cherry pick what I want for free, knowing that I'll only want a metre of this and that.

. Again thirty years ago, if something was even remotely below par, people would take it back to the retailer.

Like the Winfield lathes ? The Pooles and the Sooper Adapts of this world ?

Even the Myford ML1's to 5's were adulterated junk

Local company contacted me last week as they had heard on the local grapevine that I was downsizing with the result that they paid a visit and after 10 minutes of horse trading they bough the whole stock of steel, brass, alloy, stainless and all the spare sheet and profile that was so handy to fabricate bits out of.

They also bought the power saw and three of the welders.

So on Monday two guys rolled up with a long bed Transit pickup and loaded the first lot, or rather overloaded the first lot wink

Problem is you can't see where they have been. I reckoned on about 4 tonnes but this first load had to be well over a tonne so not sure now just what was there.

So when they are finished that will be every bit of steel and alloy off the premises except for some oddment in a couple of drawers.

Yesterday I had to pop into the hospital for a blood test because of this pesky ingrowing toe nail,

Been before a few times but never noticed the sign on the door before.

Sign blown up from a pretty crap camera phone.

Blood Taking Room.

I wonder if Urology has a similar room ??

Cammus.
A treatise on the teeth of gears 1806

Diametrical

Point of Order Mr Chairman. Charles-Étienne-Louis Camus was a Napoleonic Frenchman. Of course he thought it was metric.

Je vais chercher mon manteau...smiley

Sorry SOD being French I reread the book again and realise it wasn't Diametrical but Diabolical
