Hi All

Me again..

I've just been stripping and cleaning up the tail stock and Apron Gear Assemply and noticed that the diagram in the manual has a washer 07/010 which on my lathe is not there instead there's a bearing!!

And also there no EPL 19 waved washer between the handle and the dial gauge

Thanks

Well then Lee, you're going to have to order them from Boxford.

PS - you're gonna have a heart attack if you're not careful crook.

would you suggest removing the bearing David and replace with the brass washer thats listed in the manual?

Thanks

Lee

If it works, I'd always stay as the original setup.

ok David thanks it just confused me when i took it apart then looked at the diagram and found the brass washer should be next in sequence but all i had was a bearing.

Theres defo two Wavey washers missing after the wheels which i think are a must to have so will get them

Thanks for your help..

.

My X10 has a bearing also. - I presume that this may be an undocumented modification by Boxford.

My advice would be clean it, relube it and pop it back leaving well alone.

Hi Nick

I can confirm after speaking with Boxford that dependent on age it is a change that is on some machines and the manual is outdated so bearings are in place of some documented washers etc

Thanks for the advice as always appreciated

Hi All

Update!! Lathe now running with inverter and control but as you can hear from the video clip there's a whistle coming from the motor when I increase the speed..

The electrician used SY screamed cable about 1 metre

Any idea how to cure this

Thanks

Lee

Did he ground the cable shield at one end, or both?

Lee

Then for starters try grounding both ends, in case that cures it smiley.

And if that doesn't work, despite the shielding, you may want to try moving the inverter a bit further away if you have enough slack cable.

My Alexander mill inverter makes that sort of noise(high pitched whine) as well when it reaches speed. I think i only grounded one end of the s.y cable. I dont have a remote pendant on it as yet so just using the inverter controls directly.

Hi David

Thanks for that and will try both ends and the inverter is about a metre away from the motor as I was told that the cable from the inverter to the motor should be around a metre

Thanks

You will always get noise from screamed cable, try getting some mute cable.

More seriously the shielding or lack of it won't make the motor noisy, but if the inverter is set for a low carrier frequency that can make odd noises. you can reprogram some inverters to use a different waveform and reduce the noise, or at least make it less unpleasant.

.

Now don't get jumpy or panicky. ................................ Yet.

But on that video it was not the motor noise. It just on the whole sounded a bit 'rumbly' somewhere than the one I have. frown

Maybe the video audio or something as simple as the change gears having the incorrect spacing and want a tad of adjustment.
